Accountant, Jerusalem – National Position
Position type and closing date:
The position is full time as a replacement for Maternity leave and hired locally.
Duration: From 1st of November 2024 to 30 April 2025 with possible extension.

Reporting to: Senior Accountant
Supervising: No supervision responsibilities

The Lutheran World Federation is looking for an Accountant for the LWF Jerusalem Program.
The Lutheran World Federation (LWF) is a global communion of 148 churches in the Lutheran tradition, representing 75.5 million Christians in 99 countries. LWF World Service works in 25 countries in Africa, Asia, the Middle East, Latin America and the Caribbean. LWF Jerusalem program has served the Palestinians in Jerusalem, West Bank and Gaza through humanitarian, health and educational programs since 1948. LWF manages the Augusta Victoria Hospital, two vocational training centers in Ramallah and in East Jerusalem and its central office is on the Mount of Olives.
Terms of Reference
Main Outcome of the position:
The main outcome of this position is to ensure the accurate and timely recording of daily financial transactions, contribute to key financial reports, and maintain the integrity of the organization’s financial records. By efficiently preparing bank reconciliations, reviewing balance sheet accounts, and assisting in financial audits, the role supports the organization's financial stability and compliance with regulations. Additionally, the position ensures proper tracking of supplier invoices and tax-related reports, contributing to effective financial management and decision-making within the organization.
Key Responsibilities:
- Record the daily financial transactions (PVs, RVs, JVs)
- Prepare the monthly deduction at source report.
- Prepare the monthly bank reconciliation
- Regularly review the balance sheet accounts.
- Prepare the weekly bank status
- Prepare the monthly maqassa report.
- Collect the suppliers’ invoices and prepare for PCN monthly report
- Assist as required in preparing the end of year financial statements and the annual financial audit.
- Perform any other financial related matter as requested by senior accountant, Deputy Director of Finance and Administration, or Director of Finance and Administration.

Requirements:
1. Educational Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
2. Experience
- Minimum 2-3 years of experience in the same field with similar responsibilities.
- Accounting software Knowledge.
- Strong knowledge of MS Office, particularly Excel, for preparing reports and conducting financial analysis.
- Familiarity with financial reporting standards (IFRS, GAAP).
- Understanding of tax regulations relted to Makasaa
- Strong attention to detail to ensure accuracy in recording financial transactions and reconciling accounts.
- Good organizational skills to manage multiple reports and deadlines (weekly bank status, monthly bank reconciliations, etc.).
5. Communication and Collaboration Skills
- Strong verbal and written communication skills to liaise with the senior accountant, finance directors, suppliers, and auditors.
- Ability to work collaboratively with the finance team and other departments, as needed.
6. Other Requirements
- Ability to handle sensitive financial information confidentially.
- Ability to work independently and manage time efficiently to meet deadlines.
- Willingness to assist in year-end financial statement preparation and support during audits.
- A proactive attitude towards continuous learning and adapting to new financial systems or processes.
