Administrative & Communication Coordinator
Launched in October 2005, the Palestinian Faculty Development Program (PFDP) aims to increase capacity within the higher education sector in the West Bank and Gaza Strip and address long-term issues of reform in teaching and learning practices.
The program, which is funded by USAID and the Open Society Institute (OSI) and administered by AMIDEAST and OSI, has three main objectives: 1) to promote the expansion, retention, and professional development of promising academics; 2) to revitalize and reform teaching at Palestinian higher education institutions, and 3) promote an institutional culture of teaching and learning. AMIDEAST seeks a full time Administrative & Communication Coordinator to work within existing Palestinian Faculty Development Program (PFDP) staff in Ramallah office. This position provides overall logistic and administrative support to all PFDP activities and staff and communicating these activities to the public and academic communities.
Position available immediately and duties include but are not limited to the following:
-Coordinate visits and outreach of PFDP staff to universities, agencies, and ministries;
-Maintain PFDP’s database, alumni records, and program files;
-Keep track of all participants and other contacts associated with PFDP and provide email and telephone support to institutions and individual requests for program information;
-Compile minutes of meetings and document program activities as needed;
-Provide assistant with translation of program documents;
-Update and maintain office inventory list;
-Provide office clerical support and administrative assistance as needed;
-Project a professional appearance, cooperative attitude, and maintain high ethical standards;
-Maintain PFDP’s website so the content is current and accurate;
-Develop a quarterly PFDP newsletter designed to highlight program activities ad successes. This includes developing story leads, writing, research, formatting and editing in cooperation with other PFDP staff;
-Photograph people and events during PFDP activities and keep a chronological photographic record that can be incorporated into outreach and other PR activities;
-Invite and coordinate local press coverage during PFDP’s activities;
-Prepare and distribute press releases for PFDP events and announcements
-Prepare success stories from PFDP programs and activities for use by PFDP, AMIDEAST and USAID
-Coordinate and provide logistic support to all PFDP’s major events and visitors participating in PFDP activities;
-Manage the USAID GIS database, with regular updating with PFDP activities and participants information;
-Provide administrative support on all program components and participate in staff discussions relating to promotion, outreach, and program activities;
Applicant should have the following credentials and experience:
-Bachelor degree in communication and/or relevant field;
-At least 2-3 years of administrative experience in project communications, coordination, and documentation;
-Excellent written and spoken Arabic and English;
-Precise attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to work under pressure and able to take the lead on individual initiatives;
-Proven communication skills and experience conducting educational outreach.
-Previous experience in media relations and public information and knowledge of strategies for outreach to key media outlets in the West Bank.
-Previous experience in media productions preferable: documentaries, short films, spotlights.
-Experience working on donor-funded projects with USAID experience preferable;
-Able to travel widely through the West Bank (driving license and comfortable driving in the West bank a plus);
-Advanced proficiency in Word and Excel mandatory;
-Experience developing and writing newsletters, editing English documents, and previous translation experience preferred;
