Job Title: Advocacy and Communication Associate
Duration: 6 months with possibility of extension
Duty Station:Jerusalem
Level:Service Contract (SB 3/2)

Within the general framework of the Spanish MDG Achievement Fund Joint Programme on “Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment” in the occupied Palestinian territory (oPt), and more specifically under outcome 1 of the programme (Awareness raised, behavior and attitudes changed amongst men and women on gender relations, women’s entitlements and rights), the advocacy and communication assistant will perform the following tasks under the direct supervision of UNFPA Jerusalem Office, and in close coordination with the MDF Achievement Fund Programme Management Team.
 


Within the named programme, the Associate should:
-Follow up on the timely and efficient arrangements for media activities under the programme according to the media advocacy work plan for 2011
-Closely monitor the implementation of the project activities; using existing monitoring and evaluation tools and maintain accurate documentation and records of work done
-Identify constraints and resource deficiencies and recommend corrective actions, report on these to the programme manager
-Ensure the submission of accurate and up-to-date financial and substantive reports, forms and inventories of activities supported
-Assist in preparation of related project meetings, setting the agenda, taking and distribution of minutes to respective members and follow up on actions post-meeting
-Document findings, lessons learnt, success stories and best practices and approaches of the conducted media campaigns
-Coordinate closely with the UN agencies, Ministry of Women’s Affairs and in the national UN Communications Group (UNCG)
-Provide guidance and technical support to the development and implementation of the media activities
-Produce content and narrative for visibility / promo materials, including website, brochures and format, proofread and disseminate press releases and other information materials
-Assist in organizing visibility events: media events, such as press conferences, report launches, video productions and media tours to sites
-Write and produce summaries, updates, articles as needed
-Maintain good media relations with local and international reporters, to enhance programme’s visibility by educating the media about its principal themes and mission
-Build a database for media and partners to be shared and used, He/she could build a news archive to help document and can be used to search for references
-Other related tasks

We are looking for candidates who have:

-Possess in-depth (or good) knowledge of media and media relations.
-Team player skills with excellent inter-personal communication skills
-Advanced oral and written communications and editing skills both in English and Arabic
-A thorough understanding of the UN system in general, and most particularly of UNFPA mandate,
-Familiarity with or knowledge of communication approaches in strategy planning, development, execution
-Understanding of the country’s culture, history and political context

Job Requirements
-Academic Requirements: Preferably a bachelor’s degree in communication, or mass media.
-Experience:  Three to five years of professional experience in related field.
-Languages:   Fluency in oral and written English and Arabic
-Computer Skills:   Proficiency in current office software applications
