The Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) is a non-governmental, humanitarian organization with 60 years of experience in helping to create a safer and more dignified life for refugees and internally displaced people. NRC advocates for the rights of displaced populations and offers assistance within the shelter, education, emergency food security, legal assistance, and water,sanitation and hygiene sectors.
The Norwegian Refugee Council has approximately 5000 committed and competent employees involved in projects across four continents. In addition, NRC runs one of the world’s largest standby rosters -NORCAP, with 650 professionals, ready to be deployed on 72 hours notice when a crisis occurs
The tasks will cover information gathering – particularly related to key advocacy priorities of shelter and holistic Gaza recovery – supporting the NRC advocacy strategy, and general participation in the advocacy and protection unit work. The officer will ensure the timely and efficient flow of information to the advocacy unit about issues relevant to advocacy on Gaza, facilitate clear communication between the advocacy team and the CCs in Gaza, and develop information materials relevant to that data gathered including graphs and maps.
Generic responsibilities
-Support NRC’s advocacy strategy for Palestine, and ensure its implementation;
-Meet regularly with relevant parties to gather information on reconstruction and recovery for advocacy use, particularly on access of materials and staff into Gaza and other issues which are inhibiting humanitarian projects in the Gaza Strip.
-Gather original data, consolidate data from partner organisations, and analyse key trends affecting humanitarian projects in Gaza.
-Research and draft information resources, including fact sheets, infographics, maps, data sets, graphs and case studies, for advocacy purposes;
-Support ad-hoc information requests and carry out other tasks as required;
-Perform other such relevant duties including administrative work, as requested by supervisor.
Specific responsibilities
-Provide regular updates on blockages or humanitarian assistance;
-Develop a database indicating the timeframes required for the entry of humanitarian materials;
-Attend relevant meetings in Gaza and coordinate closely with other NGO’s and UN agencies involved in reconstruction and recovery
Personal qualities
-Bachelor degree in relevant working experience
-Experience working as a Project Officer or similar in a humanitarian/recovery context
-Previous experience from working in complex and volatile contexts
-Documented results related to the position’s responsibilities
-Good knowledge of English, both verbal and written
Specific skills, knowledge and experience:
-At least three years of relevant works experience in advocacy, research, or data analysis;
-Experience working with internally displaced persons (IDPs) and refugees an advantage;
-Ability to work independently and communicate efficiently over telephone, email and skype;
-Experience working with NGOs international organisations in Gaza.
