Advocacy Officer
The Society of St. Yves, the Catholic Center for Human Rights is a Catholic Church related organization operating with the aim to serve the poor and marginalized Palestinians. The Society of St. Yves is looking to hire a new advocacy officer for its joint EU funded project: “People with disabilities (PWDs) in East Jerusalem enjoy improved living conditions”. This project will be implemented in partnership and coordination with the Swedish organization Diakonia.
The successful candidate for this position will be contracted for one year (renewable). He/she will be responsible for supporting the Head of Advocacy in implementing advocacy activities related to the PWDs project and will be responsible for conducting awareness raising, media outreach and local campaigns for the project’s target group and will be undertaking the following duties:
Supporting the Head of Advocacy in case campaigning/lobbying on all levels.
Networking with NGOs working on the rights of PWDs in East Jerusalem.
Responsible for implementing media and advocacy campaigns related to the target group.
Responsible for case documentation related to the project both in English/Arabic.
Conducting media and community outreach related to the project.
Responsible for implementing an awareness raising program.
Other duties related to the position as required by the Head of Advocacy.
Minimum Requirements:
A university degree in human rights; law; political science; journalism or any other related field.
At least 2 years of experience in the advocacy field or other related fields.
Knowledge of human rights and disability rights issues.
Prior networking experience with NGOs working on the rights of PWDs in East Jerusalem is an advantage.
Proven experience in conducting advocacy campaigns and events.
Experience in translating, writing of press releases and publishing of texts in Arabic and English.
Computer skills including website hosting and social media campaigning.
Excellent command Arabic and English. Good command of Hebrew is an advantage.
