Extension and training center at the Faculty of agriculture and Environment, Al Azhar University –Gaza in partnership with and funding by Secours Islamique France (SIF) will implement a livelihood project aims at Improving the Food Security of Vulnerable Families through the reinforcement of the Research-action system of Al-Azhar University- Faculty of Agriculture and Environment.  The project’s goal will be achieved through   three specific objectives: (1) Improving farmer’s technical and economic efficiency of their farming system, (2) strengthening Institutional capacity of University and extension institutions, and (3) Improving food security of vulnerable families.

The center is seeking to appoint ten agricultural practitioners to conduct training and extension services to project beneficiaries.
Initially, 20 agricultural engineers will be selected to attend intensive optimal agricultural practices and extension approaches. After training, 20 candidates will set for written and oral exams and according to the exam results the best 10 engineers will be hired to work as extension practitioners.

Summary Job Description:

The practitioners’ main responsibility is to carry out farmers’ beneficiaries needs assessment and provide them with training and extension services to ensure improved quality of their production systems. Additionally, they will be responsible for technically supervising the agricultural operations in the faculty production models.

Specific responsibilities:

Under direct supervision of the project officer, the 10 selected practitioners will be responsible for:
-conducting need assessment and baseline to select the targeted group of farmers. 
-ensure the quality of inputs provided to the farmers
Supervise rehabilitation of diary and crops farmers’ units for 50 dairy farmers and 50 innovative crops farmers.
-conducting in field training and regular extension field visits to 50 dairy farmers and 50 innovative crops farmers.
-regular data collection from the field to serve M&E plans.  
-ensure students involvement in project training and extension activities.
-provide technical supervision on the production models in the faculty farm.
-facilitate farmers’ field schools to disseminate effective positive knowledge to farming community
-regular reporting to the project officer.

Required Qualifications, Experience and Skills:

-Bachelor’s degree in, agriculture sciences (plant production, animal production or food technology) -new graduates with at least 1-2 years of experience in agricultural extension services or related fields.
-experience in dairy cattle farming, innovative cropping systems and dairy processing is advantage.
-strong interpersonal and communication skills.
-good experience in planning and reporting field work.
-fair knowledge of English language.
