About the Association:
The Agricultural Development Association was launched as an initiative by a small group of pioneer agronomists and farmers that emerged from the Palestinian voluntary movement in late 1970s. In early 1980s PARC’s role and achievements were recognized throughout the Palestinian territories, aiming at filling the deliberate gab in provision of agricultural extension and developmental services induced by the Israeli occupation authorities. At the time, where the so-called Israeli civil administration intentionally proceeded to deprive the Palestinians of specialized extension programs, establishment of research stations, obtaining modern technology in agriculture, in a deliberate attempt to marginalize the Palestinian agriculture sector and dismantle the special bonds between the Palestinian farmers and their land so as to confiscate it later for settlement purposes. In 1983, PARC became an organization and committed itself to carry on working to contribute in protecting Palestinian land from confiscation through plantation of the uncultivated areas and providing Palestinian vulnerable farmers with extension services. PARC has undergone a number of various phases throughout the past decades.
About the Vacancy:
The Agriculture extension officer role is to take part in the implementation of “Agricultural Innovation in Palestine” project. This project is funded by the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg through PARC. The project is designed to improve the Palestinian rural communities’ skills, know-how and increase income of small scale farmers, through enhancing the best agricultural practices and promoting applications of friendly environmental agricultural techniques within a conducive institutional and policy framework in WB and GS.
Human skills are of significant relevance to the type of livelihood strategies they follow therefore the choice to incorporate agriculture as a livelihood strategy requires a certain set of skills on the part of farmers and newly graduate agronomists, school students and other beneficiaries targeted by this program.
The ideal candidate will have experience working with different level of stakeholders to develop partnerships and facilitate the implementation of activities towards achieving the project objectives and goals. The candidate will have experience in agriculture sector and more specifically the design and development of capacity building measures for different agricultural groups. The selected candidate will be based in the Gaza strip and will focus on building capacities & establishing relationships with the project target groups. He/she will report to the Project coordinator.
Qualifications:
- At least 3-plus years’ experience working in agriculture sector.
- University degree in Engineering, agriculture, plant protection and production.
- Extensive experience working with public and private sector partners.
- A strong background in the NGO sector and particularly agricultural sector.
- Self-starter, ability to work in fast-paced, diverse work environment with minimal support infrastructure.

Main Purpose of the position and key Tasks & Responsibilities:
Under the direct supervision of and the responsibility of the project coordinator & Projects and programs Coordinator PARC’s Gaza Office, the agricultural extension officer will be involved in the design and development of the capacity building measures of the project as well as the imp0lmenetation of activities under the economic empowerment component of the action.
Tasks and Responsibilities:
Organic agriculture
- Selection of the beneficiaries of the program
- Promote the OA program among farmers
- Delivering agricultural technical workshops for farmers
- Distribution of agricultural inputs
- Establishing pilot farms
- Direct follow up for the grants of the agricultural cooperatives
- Coordination of annual farmers' forums
Agricultural technicians:
- Preparing the training plans
- Selection of qualified trainers according to the PARC’s procedures
- Coordination with training companies and private sector institutions for the practical training
- Evaluation of training and trainees
- Preparing periodic reports as required
Environmental clubs:
- Selection of schools intended to establish environmental clubs
- Coordination with the Ministry of Education and schools
- Follow up the implementation of environmental activities in schools
- Conduct competitions related to environmental activities in schools
- Supervising the rehabilitation and planting of the school gardens
- Supervise the implementation of the summer camps
- Preparing reports for summer camps
