Position Summary:
United Palestinian Appeal, www.upaconnect.org, is seeking an experienced professional to serve as the Agronomist in the Gaza office. The Agronomist will contribute to and advise on the successful implementation of UPA’s planned project activities in the field and supervise the work of contractors and consultants who deliver direct services to project beneficiaries.
The Agronomist will be primarily responsible for the following duties:
- Follow up the implementation of the planned project activities in the field and coordinate with the Programs Officer to ensure that work is being implemented in accordance with the plans.
- Participate in developing the tools and forms that will be used in the selection of the project beneficiaries.
- Conduct technical needs assessment as required per the project to inform the development of the implementation modalities.
- Advise on the agricultural modalities and applications to be used for the implementation of the project activities that are most efficient, feasible, and sustainable.
- Supervise and provide technical advice on work being implemented by contractors and technical consultants who deliver direct services to project beneficiaries.
- Provide regular progress reports to the direct supervisor and participate in drafting project success stories and case studies.
- Based on technical field assessment, develop bills of quantities for the work to be carried out in the field under each project component and supervise the implementation of upgrade and rehabilitation works and delivery of agricultural assets and inputs to the project beneficiaries.
- Ensure that all documents related to the above-mentioned tasks are complete and available.
- Collect all select M&E data.
- Provide hands-on training on green fodder production for livestock farmers.
- Provide group technical training for plant production farmers on a variety of topic, including farm management, disease management, pesticide, fertilization, irrigation techniques, etc.
- Provide extension visits (technical follow-ups) to plant production farmers.

Qualifications:
- At least a bachelor’s degree in agriculture or any other relevant field. Master's degree and above is a credit.
- At least 7 years of work experience in the field of agriculture, particularly with relevance to economic empowerment and small business development.
- At least 5 years of proven experience in working with small-scale businesses related to plant production and animal husbandry.
- Previous experience in working with local or international NGOs, particularly in agri-business development and economic empowerment.
- Strong knowledge of the principles and modalities of small-scale agri-business development.
- Experience with green fodder production for livestock farmers.
- Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, and prioritize workload.
- Mature work practices, highly motivated, and demonstrate sound judgment.
- Demonstrated experience in the fieldwork in different areas.
- Good reporting and communication skills.
