Agronomist Officer – National position, based in Gaza
 
Your main responsibilities:

Assessment and Planning

  • Conduct thorough assessments of local agricultural conditions and identify key challenges and opportunities.
  • Collaborate with relevant stakeholders to develop comprehensive agricultural plans aligned with project objectives.
  • Assist with developing operational plans to deliver targeted economic development assistance to primary constituencies such as farmers, livestock breeders, small businesses and communities-at-large.

Implementation:

  • Lead the implementation of agricultural interventions, including crop production, soil management, and water conservation practices.
  • Develop recovery plans for farmers and livestock breeders in post- conflict period.
  • Provide technical guidance to farmers on improved agricultural techniques and technologies.
  • Facilitate the distribution of agricultural inputs 

Capacity Building:

  • Design and conduct training programs for local farmers and farmers on sustainable farming practices, crop management, and post-harvest handling.
  • Provide guidance, mentoring and support to implementing partners.
  • Foster community engagement 

  Monitoring and Evaluation:

  • Support in establishing monitoring and evaluation frameworks to track the progress of agricultural initiatives.
  • Regularly collect and analyze data to assess the impact of interventions and make Coordination.    
Coordination:    
  • Collaborate with other project teams, International Agencies, government agencies, and local partners to ensure a holistic approach to humanitarian aid.
  • Participate in coordination meetings and share insights with relevant stakeholders.

Job Requirements
To be successful you bring:
  • Bachelor’s or higher degree in agronomy, agriculture or related fields
  • Proven experience in working in agricultural development projects, preferably in humanitarian context
  • Knowledge of sustainable agricultural practices, soil conservation, and water management
  • Familiarity with the local agricultural context and challenges
  • Strong project management skills and the ability to work in challenging environments
  • Fluency in written and spoken both English and Arabic
  • Good analytical skills
  • Good computer skills (MS Office)

Standard function description:

  • Contribute to the implementation and running of specific projects / programmes, working mainly independently
  • Maintain contacts with partner organisations at various levels
  • Contribute to new proposals development
  • Contribute to written reporting
