PREMIERE-URGENCE INTERNATIONALE (PUI) is an international, non-religious and non-profit French organization intervening in 20 countries worldwide to provide a global response on the fundamental needs to victims of humanitarian crisis from the emergency to the restoration of their autonomy and dignity.

PUI received generous fund from British Council – Cultural Protection Fund- to implement a project titled: “Protection, Preservation and Promotion of Gaza Strip Historical Archaeological Sites”.

For that purpose, PUI is seeking for Archaeological Sites Manager

Duration: 26 months

Starting Date: 06th December 2017

Tasks and responsibilities:

Selection of skilled and unskilled workers to work on the sites:

-        Assist M & E officer in selecting skilled and unskilled workers,
-        Participate in the selection committee for skilled and unskilled workers

Implementation & Supervision of works on the targeted archaeological sites:

-        To manage on a daily basis the worker teams who will intervene on the sites of Tell Umm el-Amr and Jabalyah, to keep a daily attendance sheet of their presence on the sites in close collaboration with senior field officer,
-        To check their work, to guide them and to advise technicians,
-        To ensure that the rule of art is respected in terms of restoration, archeology, setting up modern structures on the site
-        To monitor technically the good implementation of projects and operations in close collaboration with PUI M & E manager,
-        To follow the work of the external companies which will intervene on the sites of Tell Umm el-Amr and Jabalyah in close collaboration with PUI senior field officer,
-        To assist in their task, action, training the various specialists who will intervene on the site (size of the stone, mosaic, painted plaster, archeology)
-        To participate in the various projects put in place by the different specialists and to replace them if necessary (stone size, mosaic, painted plaster, archeology)
-        If necessary, ensure the translation between the various stakeholders (specialists, workers, students, partners, external stakeholders)
-        In close collaboration with PUI logistic and security manager, ensure the safety and integrity of the various specialists (stone cutting, mosaic, painted plaster, archeology)
-        Accompany the various specialists in the installation of their accommodation.
-        Attend site meetings
-        Keep a daily follow up of different works implemented in the two targeted sites through photography in close collaboration with PUI’s photographer,
-        Ensure that the work of the guards is well executed
-        Keep flexibility in working hours in order to lead the best achievements.

Capacity building training sessions:

-        Participate in the selection of new graduates to work  as interns within PUI for this project,
-        Guide them for field work and build their capacity in archaeology field and heritage protection,

Coordination and collaboration with key stakeholders:

-        To be in contact with the agents of MoTA after having kept informed PUI and EBAF.
-        Make the necessary contacts at the request of the various stakeholders and specialists in close coordination with GSFC,
-        In close collaboration with PUI GSFC, keep contact with UNISCO representatives,

Advocacy and Media contact:

-        Organize awareness sessions on the importance of cultural heritage in GS for local communities,
-        Organizing onsite visits for pupils, students and general public,
-        Participate in training sessions for “Recording and archiving of cultural heritage” and assist trainers as needed,
-        Assist in providing photos and simple progress reports on works implemented in the two targeted sites for the Facebook page of the project,
-        Participate in all visits to the sites with local authorities, donors, international communities,
-        Assist in the organization of the inauguration ceremonies in close collaboration with PUI logistic and security manager,
-        Do not undertake an interview with a journalist without permission from PUI and EBAF in relation to the project,
-        Never engage the responsibility of PUI and EBAF without prior authorization,

Logistic tasks:

-        To find the materials and materials necessary for the good realization of the project,
-        In close collaboration with PUI logistic and security manager; organize the purchase of materials and equipment necessary for the successful completion of the project,
-        Advise the logistic and security manager on the technical site of any procurement,

Reporting:

-        To report the different progress of the projects on a daily basis to GSFC and EBAF representatives,
-        Participate in reporting process for monthly, quarterly and annual reports

Required knowledge and skills:

-        Minimum 15 years of relevant experiences in the protection and preservation of cultural heritage notably in archaeological sites: excavation, restoration, painting, stone cutting, etc
-        Proven experiences in restoration of pottery and capacity building skills,
-        Previous experiences in advocacy and raising awareness on cultural heritage,
-        Fluency in Arabic language and English or French language is desired,
-        Previous experiences working with International institutions in the field of archaeology and cultural heritage,
-        Ability to work independently and as a collaborative team member.
-        Ability to independently organize work and prioritize tasks.
-        Professionalism, presentation, communication and networking skills.
-        Ability to work under pressure.
-        Ability to work with various partners, in a spirit of openness, and with adaptable communications strategies.
-        Ability to write reports and follow-up execution of projects’ activities.
-        Self-motivated, diplomat, honest, highly responsible, and punctual.
-        Computer skills, in particular MS Word, MS Excel, MS Outlook, MS Project and the Internet.
