The duration of the assignment is 6 months as service contract and it is a full time consultancy (8 hours)

Business Development Consultant
Background:
Mercy Corps is a nonprofit international relief and development organization serving more than
19 million people in 36 countries. Mercy Corps has had a presence in the West Bank and Gaza since the 1980s, helping Palestinians meet their immediate needs for survival and find durable solutions to chronic problems. With offices in East Jerusalem, Ramallah and Gaza City, Mercy Corps implements programs throughout the Palestinian territories.
Mercy Corps is implementing ICT ecosystem development programs in Gaza since 2009 with funding from a range of donors. Mercy Corps is currently implementing the Arab Development Network Initiative (ADNI) with funding from Google, Inc. The primary goal of (ADNI) is to support IT entrepreneurs to identify and launch scalable startup ideas. To support Gaza IT entrepreneurs ADNI has created Gaza Sky Geeks, the first IT startup accelerator in Gaza. Gaza Sky Geeks will support the most promising startup ideas and entrepreneurs by providing seed investment, mentor support and link to follow on investment. Gaza Sky Geeks will be based on a for-profit acceleration model.
Objective of the assignment:
The Business Development Consultant is going to work closely with startups to support them create their business models, investor pitches and launch their products.
Scope of Work:
The Business Development Consultant will be employed by Mercy Corps, and will work closely with Mercy Corps’ environment, partners and other stakeholders to complete the following scope of work.
-Develop material for GSG events (bootcamp, meetups,..) and acceleration program
-Work closely with startups on developing business model canvas and financial projections
-Work with startups on developing their products that fit within pitches to investors
-Develop and continuously update GSG events and meetups calendar
-Identify and connect with local mentors for GSG meetups, speakers and trainers
-Develop events announcements, applications and provide documentation for acceleration process
-Develop acceleration modules and curriculum that fit best for Gaza startups context
-Enhance the quality of meetups and attract experienced startups to GSG
-Work closely with communications consultant and provide him with reports, material and success stories to cover and post on the website
-Attract startups and entrepreneurs to participate in GSG accelerator through pitching GSG to universities, training centers, develop designs
-Work with startups on user experience (UX) for their web/mobile applications
-Provide overall support to Gaza eco-system meetings and startups
-Develop selection criteria for entrepreneurs to participate in GSG events and meetups
-Contribute to developing GSG accelerator work plans and acceleration program
-Works cooperatively with Mercy Corps staff, local community, partner NGOs, and other parties.
-Generating verbal and written translations of pertinent project documentation as needed/required.
-Attend weekly meeting organized with entrepreneurs and startups
-Coordinate information sharing between entrepreneurs and GSG crucial to success of the accelerator
-Supervise startups major events and international activities, i.e. meetups, startup weekend, bootcamp and acceleration program
-Provide assistance and moderate online discussions participated by multiple teams over GSG blog
-Monitor computer lab and ensure that all activities conducted there are done in accordance with Mercy Corps rules and regulation and utilized accordingly and appropriately.
-Participates in relevant (external and internal) project evaluations and/or needs assessments.
-Leads in planning baseline as well as end line data collection in line with the established evaluation strategy.
-Regularly reports on project implementation/ progress
-Liaises and coordinates with other Mercy Corps departments as needed.
-Performance of work beyond normal office hours as required, without additional compensation.
-Conduct himself/herself both professionally and personally in such a manner as to bring credit to Mercy Corps and to not jeopardize its humanitarian mission.
-Ensure that accurate and up-to date programmatic documentation is maintained.
-Ensure that relevant evaluation strategies are implemented in a timely and high quality manner, and that all outcomes of activities are met.
-Issue regular reports on project implementation/ progress to the Program Manager, and prepare draft reports and other project documentation.
-Other tasks as appointed by program manager.
REPORTS DIRECTLY TO: Program Manager
WORKS DIRECTLY WITH: Program Manager, Communications Consultant, Program Support Consultant and Program Director
Deliverables:
The outputs of Business Development Consultant will be:
-Bootcamp and acceleration training material
-Business model and financial analysis for each team
-Reports and lesson learnt for each phase
-Full documentation of each event, meet-up and team
Qualification and Experience of the required consultant:
-University degree in entrepreneurship, business administration or relevant field preferred
-At least five years’ experience working with startups, preferably Gaza startups and his/her own startup
-Previous experience in developing business models, financial projections and investor pitches
-Proven skills in strategic planning, assessment, training organization, monitoring and evaluation.
-Excellent communication, organizational and prioritization skills and ability to multi-task and support and/or fill multiple positions at one time.
-Demonstrate attention to detail and ability to follow procedures, meet deadlines and work both independently and cooperatively with the team members.
-Understanding of the social, political, and economic context of Palestinian territories, especially in the Gaza Strip.
-Excellent writing skills in English and Arabic.
-Proficiency in MS Office.

-General Conditions and Payment terms
-Communication Consultant will be paid based on monthly rate.
-The Contractor is not entitled to leave days or vacation time. The consultant is entitled only for Mercy Corps official holidays.
-The consultant is not a Mercy Corps employee and will not as such be entitled to any benefits or compensations outside of the rate specified above
