Business Engagement Lead

Job Description

Chemonics International seeks a Business Engagement Lead for the USAID-funded Trade, Investment, and Finance Activity in the West Bank and Gaza. The project seeks to drive transformative impacts for the Palestinian sector through increased trade and exports and position the Palestinian economy for growth. The Business Engagement Lead will support the technical engagement of program activities. The Business Engagement Lead will also be the primary point of coordination for private partnerships and stakeholder engagement. The Business Engagement Lead must have at least seven years of experience working on donor-funded projects in the West Bank and Gaza and/or the wider region. Candidate should have proficient English skills and be well-versed in issues related to economic resiliency and stability, new market opportunities, supply chain logistics, local and foreign direct investments, and inclusive access to finance. This position will be based in Ramallah. We are looking for dynamic individuals with a passion for making a difference in the lives of people around the world.

Responsibilities 

  • Publicly represent the project’s technical coordination of business engagements in partnership with key stakeholders, including USAID, local government officials, private sector institutions, business and trade organizations, local financial institutions, and others in politically sensitive contexts
  • Conduct market research to identify potential markets with demand for Palestinian products, and analyze the regulatory requirements needed to access them
  • Develop targeted campaigns and activities to promote Palestinian products in identified markets and promote business-to-business (B2B) connections
  • Provide technical assistance to help businesses to tailor products to meet the specific needs of target markets
  • Promote the use of E-commerce and digital platforms by businesses to enhance their online presence
  • Provide capacity building programs for businesses and private sector associations to enhance regulatory compliance and understanding of international standards
  • Build and develop private sector capacity of customs brokers, freight forwarders, and exporters, among others, to ensure a skilled workforce adept at navigating international trade regulations
  • Supervise and manage technical engagements and implementation of the project
  • Initiates and cultivates relationships with partners in target market segments. Introduces, illuminates, and engages them on the relevant opportunities
  • Collaborate with local communities, private sector, and other stakeholders to develop, implement, and evaluate strategies that strengthen private sector engagement, build capacity to drive economic growth and improve trade flows
  • Undertake other duties as assigned by the COP or DCOP

Job Requirements

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in economics, business, trade, finance, or another relevant field is required. An advanced degree is preferred
  • At least seven years of experience in economic resilience and stability and trade promotion
  • Demonstrated understanding of international trade standards
  • Experience utilizing E-commerce and digital platforms
  • Experience in managing private sector engagement in a developing country context 
  • Demonstrated experience advancing equitable, inclusive, and accessible programming that engages a diverse range of stakeholders is required
  • Regional development experience in the Middle East and North, specifically in the West Bank and Gaza, is required
  • Understanding of country context and key stakeholders is required
  • Demonstrated leadership, versatility, and integrity
  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication and presentation skills in English required. Arabic fluency required
