Cultivating New Frontiers in Agriculture (CNFA) is a not-for-profit international agricultural development organization headquartered in Washington, D.C., dedicated to empowering farmers and rural entrepreneurs to improve their livelihoods and to increase their incomes. CNFA aids smallholders in increasing household-level food security and nutrition through improved agricultural practices, introduction of new varieties, diversification of crop production, food preservation and storage, development of farmer-based organizations, and strengthened linkages to markets. CNFA has a track record of implementing successful agricultural development programs in 47 countries.

Position Summary:
CNFA is seeking applications from qualified candidates for a Capacity Building and Agronomist Officer position for the USAID Quality Technologies Revitalizing Agriculture (Q’tra) program. The purpose of this activity will be to work with farmers in the West Bank and Gaza (WBG) to improve climate-resilient conservation and management of freshwater resources and associated ecosystems by increasing the availability, quality, and environmental resilience of drinking water supply sources. The duration of this activity will be five years.

Position Description:
Reporting to the Capacity Building Specialist, the Capacity Building and Agronomist Officer role involves organizing and delivering training programs to support local farmers, including planning schedules, managing logistics, and evaluating effectiveness. It also includes maintaining a database of trainees and trainers, assisting the Capacity Building Specialist, conducting agricultural assessments, providing technical guidance, and organizing demonstration visits to promote climate-smart practices. Regular reporting and representation of Q’tra to other organizations, as well as handling additional tasks as assigned, are essential parts of the responsibilities. The Capacity Building and Agronomist Officer will be based in Ramallah, West Bank.

Position Responsibilities: The main duties of the Capacity Building and Agronomist Officer are to:

  • Develop and Implement Training Programs: Plan, organize, and direct various training activities to build capacity among local farmers.
  • Prepare Training Schedules: Create and manage schedules for all training modules, ensuring effective communication and follow-up with trainees.
  • Oversee Training Logistics: Support the implementation and management of training logistics, ensuring activities align with the work plan.
  • Evaluate Training Effectiveness: Assess the performance and effectiveness of training modules, providing recommendations for improvement and evaluating both trainer and trainee performance.
  • Maintain a Database: Build and manage a database of trainees, trainers, and consultants relevant to Q’tra work.
  • Assist Capacity Building Specialist: Support the Capacity Building Specialist in all awareness, educational, and training activities.
  • Conduct Agricultural Assessments: Assess local agricultural conditions to identify key challenges and opportunities as needed.
  • Provide Technical Guidance: Conduct field visits to offer technical guidance to farmers on improved agricultural techniques and technologies.
  • Organize Demonstration Visits: Facilitate regular visits for farmers to demonstration sites to enhance their awareness and promote evidence-based, climate-smart agricultural practices.
  • Report and Represent: Regularly report to the Capacity Building Specialist, both verbally and in writing and represent Q’tra to other NGOs and agencies as required.
  • Undertake other assignments or tasks at the request of the supervisor.

Job Requirements
  • Bachelor’s or higher degree in agronomy, agriculture or related fields
  • At least 2 years of relevant work experience. Prior experience in working in NGOs or practical experience is an asset.
  • Excellent spoken and written Arabic and English.
  • Strong knowledge in digital tools, training methods and outreach and advocacy campaigns.
  • Strong communication skills and networking abilities with diverse community groups.
  • Computer skills (MS office, virtual apps, office apps/platforms and e-mail).
