The British Consulate-General in Jerusalem is seeking an individual for the part-time position of Chevening Assistant starting in late July 2016.

Purpose of the job

Chevening is the UK Government’s international scholarship scheme aimed at developing global leaders by funding higher education study in the UK.  The successful candidate will coordinate the Chevening scholarship scheme in the Occupied Palestinian Territories (OPTs). They will promote the scheme, and coordinate sifting, interviewing and selection of candidates. The candidate will also lead on engagement with our Chevening scholarship alumni network in the Occupied Palestinian Territories, organising an exciting series of events for alumni. We are looking for an individual who is motivated, creative and an excellent communicator.


Duties and responsibilities:

-Organise a series of exciting engagement events with Chevening alumni, including TED-style talks and social events. Maintain regular contact with alumni and the Palestinian Chevening Alumni Association to organise events. Ensure that the alumni database is kept up to date.
-Promote the Chevening scholarship scheme to prospective applicants, including organising case study profiles of scholars and alumni for social media, and giving presentations in universities in the West Bank.
-Sift new Chevening scholarship applications. Organise and conduct interviews for new scholars. Respond to enquiries from applicants.
-Organise an annual farewell event for leaving scholars and a welcome home event for returning scholars.
-Complete annual Chevening strategy and bid annually for project funds for a new range of alumni engagement activities.


Skills:

Essential:

-Fluent spoken and written English is essential.
-Excellent event planning and management skills.
-Strong customer-focus skills.
-Strong networking and interpersonal skills.
-Good organisation and administrative skills, with close attention to detail.
-Good IT skills, including knowledge of Microsoft Office programmes such as Word, Excel and Outlook.

Desirable:

-Spoken Arabic is desirable.

Working Hours:

Working hours are 24 hours per week (3 days) from 0800 to 1600. Occasionally the successful candidate may be required to attend evening receptions, but time off will be given in lieu of this.

The successful candidate will be expected to start work in late July/early August.

Candidates must have the right to work in Jerusalem.
