Position title: Civil Engineer

Project Duration: 6 months

MA’AN Development Center is an independent Palestinian development and training institution established in January, 1989, registered by law as a non-profit organization.  The main office is located in Ramallah and the four branch offices are located in Gaza, KhanYounis, Tulkarem and Jenin.  MA’AN's work is informed by the necessity of creating independent, self-reliant initiatives that lead to the development of human resources for sustainable development, which incorporate values of self-sufficiency and self-empowerment. 

MA’AN Development Center is seeking a qualified candidate to work as a civil engineer. The vacancy will be based in the Gaza Strip. The scope of work includes to upgrade the housing conditions of poor families through maintenance activities. The civil engineer will work under the direct supervision of the project manager/coordinator. The main tasks and responsibilities include:

-    Follow up the project field activities and ensure compliance with the quality and accountability standards
-    Conduct filed assessment addressing the living conditions and related protection concerns of vulnerable families in different geographical areas all over the Gaza Strip
-    Conduct technical assessment for the needed maintenance/renovation works
-    Elaborate tenders documents including the BoQs and technical specifications
-    Provide individual training to each beneficiary to provide technical guidance specific to the works they need to implement in their shelter
-    Keep records of all project documents and prepare weekly and monthly reports on the project progress

Directly Reporting to: Project Manager/Coordinator

Essential Experiences and Competencies:

-    At least 5 years’ experience in construction management
-    Minimum 3 years of employment in the field of houses renovation and maintenance
-    Experience working within the NGO sector.
-    Organized, reliable attention to details and ability to work independently when needed.
-    Excellent communication skills and inter-personal skills, and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues, partners and donors.
-    Ability to work under pressure, meet deadlines, prioritize workload and multi-task.
-    Mature work practices, highly motivated and demonstrate sound judgment.
-    Good reporting skills in both English & Arabic.
-    Advanced computer literacy.
-    Integrity and strong identification with MAAN Core Values

Education and Knowledge:

At minimum a Bachelor's degree in civil or architectural engineering
Knowledgeable about the Minimum Standards in Shelter
Knowledgeable about the protection principles
