GVC Gruppo di Volontariato Civile is an Italian based international NGO operating in the oPt since 1992, and providing support to the people living in the West Bank and Gaza. GVC works in cooperation with national and local organizations, institutions and authorities to provide immediate responses to the critical needs and to the long term and sustainable solutions in order to improve the community development. GVC interventions have been recently characterized by a particular focus on WASH and Food Security/Agriculture sectors.

Position Title: Civil/Water Engineer (1 position)
Contract: 6 months full time contract
Commencement: As soon as possible
Location: Middle Area Governorates, Gaza Strip
Salary: According to the GVC terms of employment for local staff
Job Description:
Under the supervision of the Project Manager (PM) and in coordination with the Senior Technical Supervisor (STS), the Civil/Water Engineer will be responsible for the following tasks:
- Organize the distribution of WASH items ensuring the efficiency of delivery processes to the beneficiaries and the related control mechanisms.
- Supervise on the rehabilitation works of the water and wastewater networks and connections.
- Prepare and design for the required civil and hydraulic execution works as required by the project and according to the instructions of the STS as well as the guidelines of the humanitarian sector working groups.
- Monitor the works progress with respect to the timetable milestones and deadlines.
- Report to and discuss with the PM and STS the works progress and any technical issues which may have a direct impact on the general implementation of the project.
- Develop a certain degree of autonomy in managing issues related to the daily implementation of the activities.
- Provide technical guidance to the manpower in charge of the works.
- Realize tests and inspections of the materials used in the works.
- Participate in preparing and revising the BOQs, drawings, technical specifications, technical documents and work plans.
- Implement specific assessments in the targeted areas.
- Represent GVC in the sectorial meetings when needed.
- Establish contacts with counterparts (technical coordinators from local bodies and other humanitarian agencies) and share with them the techniques, knowledge and approaches related to the works.
- Keep herself/himself up-to-date on the sectorial working groups and local authorities news, reports, recommendations, and requirements, etc.
Required Qualifications:
- University degree in civil engineering, water engineering or any anther equivalent major.
- 3 - 5 years proven work experience in a similar field.
- Field experience in the implementation of humanitarian projects, preferably in WASH and shelter projects in complex emergencies and difficult security environments.
- Advanced level in the written and spoken Arabic and English.
- Excellent computer skills.
- Proven skills in reports and proposals writing.
- Proven communication, interpersonal and leadership skills.
- Previous experience with the international and local NGOs is an advantage.
- Holder of a valid driving license.
- Resident or previous worker in the Middle Area.

- Security, political and cultural aware.
