Position: Communication and information Coordinator.
Location: Gaza Strip.
Contract: Full time
Duration : 6 months, renewable.
Hiring: 1st, June 2012.

Job Purpose
Information sharing is one of GCO’s main objectives.
This position is a key strategic one within the GCO. The GCO Information and Communication Coordinator collects, treats, analyses and disseminates information on the humanitarian aid context and humanitarian activity in Gaza strip
S/he promotes coordination of information and debate on relevant
humanitarian / Gaza context issues
S/he assists the GCO Director on policy, advocacy, security, reporting and communication
S/he ensures the accuracy, adequacy and quality of the information shared within, and outside GCO
S/he liaises with Medias (local and international) covering GAZA and humanitarian concerns
S/he insures the update and dissemination of GCO press/communication files S/he manages the GCO communication department

General duties and responsibilities:
Under the supervision of the GCO director (EC) the post holder will have the following main responsibilities:

Information Sharing
To collect and disseminate relevant information to the humanitarian community in accordance with GCO charter
To support the GCO Team to collect and disseminate important information on the GAZA humanitarian space and the humanitarian response in GAZA
To identify publications, tools and other resources, available in print or
electronically, related to GAZA or humanitarian intervention that should be available for NGOs information
To liaise with GCO team and members to collect relevant information
To analyze and compile relevant articles/papers/studies in GCO publications
To ensure the accuracy and quality of information before dissemination
To ensure that NGOs and relevant parties have access to GCO’s contacts and general information through existing systems
To keep a record of the type of information required by NGOs and feedback to Coordination team in terms of suggestions and needs

To reply to requests from members, researchers and other relevant stakeholders

Communication
To produce and issue GCO publications in a timely manner and to a high standard
To create and develop communication tools to improve GCO's outreach
To coordinate advocacy messages and initiatives in order to support GCO’s global efforts to define strategies and advocacy on humanitarian issues
To ensure GCO external communication and advocacy is in line with the principals of the humanitarian community
To participate in writing GCO advocacy and policy publications
To develop an international network with relevant actors (media, academics, NGOs, etc) working on GAZA and/or humanitarian issues
To ensure all GCO contact lists are updated

Management/ Coordination
To participate in GCO strategy elaboration
To develop and set up external events in line with GCO objectives with regards to advocacy, lobbying, information sharing, etc
To assist GCO team in context updates and participate in meetings when needed
To assist GCO Director on reporting and communication when needed
To monitor humanitarian activities, contexts and issues, etc. that may be generally relevant to the GAZA context and alert GCO team accordingly
To manage the GCO communication team
To ensure the efficiency of GCO communication department
And any other task or duty as requested by NCCI management.

Requirements

Education :
University degree and post graduate qualifications in communication, information management, development studies or other relevant discipline

Languages:
Fluent in English, Arabic a definite plus

IT skills:
Perfect command of computer, Internet and usual software (Word, Excel, Outlook…)
At ease with running website

Experience and skills:
Minimum 5 years experience in Information and Communication in an international environment
Commitment to humanitarian principles and actions. Objectivity and impartiality are imperative
Knowledge and understanding of the international humanitarian/development system and the mandates of the actors involved
Knowledge and understanding of the dynamics of the GAZA context.
Maturity, authority and competence in managing complex priorities
Proven experience in developing communication tools and organizing international events/conferences
Excellent skills in representation, communication and diplomacy, and the ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of audiences

Reporting skills
Proven analytical skills and the ability to analyze a flow of complex information
Dynamic, autonomous, flexible, a good sense of confidentiality, a sense of initiative, an ability to plan own work and handle complex information issues
Adaptability, team spirit and an attitude of confidentiality
