Duties and Responsibilities
Under the supervision and guidance of UNFPA Representative, and in close cooperation with UNFPA county office team in Jerusalem and Gaza, the Communication Assistant will develop a national communication strategy based on UNFPA’s Global Communication Strategy, Regional Strategy and priority themes of country Programmes, taking into consideration the political context in the Occupied Palestinian Territory (OPT) . The Communication Assistant will promote UNFPA County Office’s work and policies. Additionally, he/she will contribute to the enhancement of UNFPA visibility among national partners, UN agencies and media.
More specifically, the Communication Assistant will carry out the following functions:
• Synthesizing and documenting findings and lessons learned, success stories and best
practices, strategies and approaches of the Country Office and drafting relevant materials for dissemination.
• Support the advocacy and resource mobilization strategy of the Country Office by compiling and synthesizing relevant background material for use in discussions and public events.
• Establishing and maintaining network of donor and public information contacts and provides assistance in organizing and conducting donor meetings and public information events (i.e., to celebrate population events, such as World Population Day, Women`s Day, Launching the State of World Population Report, etc.);
• Supports the advocacy and communication efforts of UNFPA team by:
(a) Developing information kits, newsletters, press releases, success stories and other media related initiatives.
(b) Establishing and maintaining an effective network with media representatives, news services and editors. and
(c) Maintaining and regularly updating the county office website including gathering, reviewing and drafting information.

Job Requirements
Academic Requirements and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in journalism or communication with 3 to 5 years of relevant experience preferably with the UN system. Experience in managing advocacy and communication projects is an asset.
Languages:
Advanced oral and written communication and editing skills in English and Arabic.
Computer Skills:
Proficiency in current office software applications
