Communication Officer/Spokesperson
The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) is an independent, neutral organization ensuring humanitarian protection and assistance for victims of war and armed violence. It takes action in response to emergencies and at the same time promotes respect for international humanitarian law and its implementation in national law.
Your Job (main tasks)
-Acts as spokesperson of the ICRC in Gaza in English and Arabic.
-Addresses media enquiries.
-Develops and proposes communication lines and content for mass media oriented products.
-Contributes to maintain and develop networks of relevant contacts in Gaza’s media, TV, radio, social media influencers, online and print media, as well as with authorities, the PRCS, civil society, etc.
-Contributes to, develops and produces video, photography and other visual communication tools.
-Contributes to, develops and produces content for the delegation’s online and social media platforms.
-Explains the ICRC’s mandate, activities and basic principles of International humanitarian law to a range of audiences in a variety of settings and through diverse channels
-Analyses the political, social and media environment, opportunities and risks, proposing the right approach to convey ICRC information and messages.
-Proposes, plans and follows up communication activities according to priorities, needs and risks.
-Reports on various communication and humanitarian activities, observed trends in relation to ICRC activities in Gaza as well as statistics on activities
-Updates the Head of Communication dept. on the needs, activities and results of the projects ongoing.
Your Profile (skills & experience required)
-University degree
-4 - 6 years work experience ideally as a spokesperson and previously with ICRC or movement is an asset
-Experience in beneficiary communication programmes
-Excellent knowledge of written and spoken English
-Advanced computer skills, incl. design, internet and social media tools and software
-Excellent analytical and writing skills
-Confirmed capacity to analyse the political and social environment
-Excellent communication and presentation skills
