Communications Officer

About RWDS: The Rural Women’s Development Society (RWDS) is a Palestinian women’s organization that registered in 2001, and  working in the occupied West Bank and Gaza Strip whose mission is to organize, support and strengthen rural women’s clubs that are committed to the principles of social justice, equality and civil society, and work in accordance with the RWDS vision of improving women’s economic, social and political status.

RWDS achieves this mission and advances the rights of rural women by creating an empowering and supportive environment for them in their local communities, highlighting their important contributions to Palestinian society and designing innovative projects under the programmatic areas of Economic, Political and Social Empowerment. Our action-oriented approach emphasizes education, community participation, skill-building, and advocacy to develop rural women into strong, committed leaders.

Position:
RWDS is seeking a part-time employee within its Public Relations and Fundraising Department that will work closely with the Public Relations Director and other managerial staff. This position will play a key role in the branding, promotion and communications of the organization, especially with regards to its image amongst the public and funding institutions. The position will also assist with project development and design and must have a full understanding of all projects and activities of the organization in order to talk/write about them to the public and to assist in writing project related documents.

This position will start with a 6 month contract, with possibility to continue based on performance review and available funding for the position.

Duties and Responsibilities:
-Assist with English/Arabic translations and writing for all internal and external organizational communications documents including brochures, reports, case studies, success stories, website material, etc.
-Updating facebook and other social media websites frequently with news about and photos of the organization and things that are connected to our work (i.e. articles on sustainable/rural development, women’s issues, women in conflict, local news, etc), along with relevant statements from managerial staff related to current events. This includes both photos and written updates.  
-Work with staff to expand and update the organization’s social media and internet presence, including updating website.
-Regularly update and develop the organization’s list/database of relevant local and national media sources (audio, print, electronic, online, etc.) that are appropriate for talking about the organizations work.
-Write pieces for local, national or international media about the organization (Ideal 2 every month, either about individual woman, staff, projects, activities or events).
-Organize media coverage that has been done about RWDS’ work.
-Help to develop and implement a communications strategy for the organization
-Assist with project design and proposal writing as necessary, including research, drafting and editing.
-Assemble and process internal research information (such as surveys and questionnaires) for planning and project design purposes.
-Do public interviews with media when Directors or other staff are not available.
-Write and send out press releases
-Represent the organization at public events, conferences, workshops, etc. when needed.
-Other tasks as deemed necessary

Qualifications
-Minimum B.A. in English, Social Sciences, Women’s Studies, Nonprofit Administration or other related field.
-Excellent communication (especially written and public speaking) skills in both Arabic and English
-Experience with Office Suite and Social Media sites required, graphic or Web Design experience preferred
-Understanding of online promotion and marketing of a non-profit and the relationship between fundraising and effective communication within a non-profit environment.
-bility to work in a fast paced environment, multi-task and prioritize.
-Knowledge of local, national and international media outlets, public speaking, and experience designing projects or programs in a non-profit environment skills are all a plus.
