Community Nurse/Health Educator

Position: Community Nurse/Health Educator
Location : Gaza city, regular visits to the field
Start Date : January 2010
Duration : 4 months

 

The Community Nurse/Health Educator will work as part of the Merlin Gaza team. The community based activities aim is to raise awareness on accessibility and availability of safe blood products through the blood banking system and influence practices. These activities will be conducted by the Community Nurse/Health Educator and carried out by the health education sessions and distribution of leaflets. The Merlin Community Nurse/Health Educator will coordinate, with the Merlin team and the head of local villages, to identify the vulnerable groups who will receive the planned health education activities. In addition, printed leaflets will be distributed by Merlin community nurses, MOH, CBBS and other health providers.

Responsibilities:

-Collect data for the KAP survey (questionnaire) on blood donation.
- Conduct awareness sessions to raise knowledge and practice of blood donation among the
most vulnerable communities in the Gaza strip.
-Contact with stakeholders (local institutes.etc), as agreed upon with the nurse trainer, project
coordinator (PC) and/or health coordinator (HC).
-Submit written notes including assessment, evaluation, photographs and demographic data for
EACH AWARENESS SESSTION.
-Weekly activity Reports will be submitted to nurse trainer and HC
- Attend meetings and training courses as identified by nurse trainer, PC & HC.

Person Requirements:

-Graduation from accredited health related program with certification and current registration to work in the Gaza strip.
-Essential (basic) knowledge of blood components, diseases and donation.
- Ability to use Microsoft office (word, Excel, PowerPoint).
-English language (4 skills)
- Knowledge of SPSS (preferable).
-Previous experience in health promotion and education.
- Previous experience in working with chronic disease patients desirable
-Previous experience in working with local or international health NGOs.
