Position Overview

The Palestinian people are facing one of the most painful chapters in its history, with over 30,000 people killed in Gaza, close to 10,000 imprisoned, and the expansion of violence in the West Bank. At this moment, the struggle for Palestinian rights is more urgent and important than ever, and this struggle must be led by Palestinian voices. This is why Avaaz is building a team that can help mobilize strategic, people-led local and global action that can help achieve the change needed. 

At the core of this project will be a lead community organizer who will work with and organize various elements of Palestinian society in the diaspora in support of a ceasefire in Gaza, and freedom for the Palestinian people. The organizer position will help coordinate, develop and pursue large-scale mobilization efforts and run campaigns and projects focused on ending the bloodshed in Gaza and in pursuit of Palestinian rights.  This position will report to one of Avaaz’s Senior Campaign Director, a leading international figure in the campaign movement for Palestinian rights.

Location

Our team's work will be predominantly on the ground, with a virtual component, where internal work is conducted over email, Google Suites, telephone, and Slack. This particular position is open to various locations near Palestinian diaspora communities, ideally in Lebanon and Jordan.

Responsibilities

Joining as an organizer means crafting evolving frameworks for impactful organizing, campaigns, and advocacy endeavors. You'll bring an ability to foster connections with key communities, nurturing trust and empowerment. Leading training sessions and meetings, you'll develop strategic collective action to champion Palestinian rights, while also participating in dynamic public actions focused on achieving a permanent ceasefire in Gaza. This role is your chance to be at the forefront of creating lasting change and shaping a future rooted in justice and equity.

Experience

This is a dynamic and ever-changing role where you'll have the opportunity to collaborate closely with diverse communities, cultivate trust and meaningful relationships to ignite action for Palestinian rights, across diverse communities in the diaspora.

  • Experience organizing successful large-scale action amongst the Palestinian diaspora, ideally in refugee camps inside Jordan and/or Lebanon
  • Extensive knowledge regarding political and social terrain in Palestine and the diaspora, particularly around youth
  • Cultural sensitivity and an ability to navigate the security and legal implications of this type of work in the Middle East
  • A diplomatic approach which drives and harnesses effective collaboration and project management amongst a diverse range of people and ensures that every voice matters
  • Fluency in English and Arabic is a requirement. Fluency in other languages is also desirable.
