Assessment of health situation and health services for Palestinians in East Jerusalem
A recent WHO quick review revealed a lack of comprehensive, reliable data on health services available to and utilized by Palestinians living in East Jerusalem. The review highlighted a number of questions, including:
-What are the various health care options available to Palestinians living in East Jerusalem?
-What are the barriers to health care?
-To what extent do Jerusalem ID holders utilize the health services provided through the Israeli health care system?
-How do East Jerusalem residents without Jerusalem IDs access health care?
The WHO will hire a short term consultant for a period of 8 weeks to conduct a review of available information on the general health situation of and health services available to Palestinians in East Jerusalem.
Responsibilities:
-Obtain and review all relevant available literature concerning health-related issues of Palestinians in East Jerusalem, including statistical reports, academic papers, grey literature, NGO documents, etc.
-Obtain available data on health indicators, health service utilization and specific health problems of Palestinians in East Jerusalem, including data related to youth, substance abuse, mental health, violence and injuries, and environmental health issues.
-List all relevant health care providers and their range of services, including Israeli health services, private clinics, NGO facilities, facilities provided by religious groups, etc.
-Obtain, where possible, statistical reports from various providers and authorities, including ambulance services.
-Obtain to the extent possible financial information related to the East Jerusalem health system.
-Obtain reports concerning various access to health issues, including transfer of Palestinian-produced medicines and supplies to East Jerusalem.
-Produce a report (statistical and narrative) of no more than 30 pages analyzing and summarizing the available information to provide an overview of the general health situation of and services available to Palestinians in East Jerusalem, highlighting areas of concern and identifying areas where further in-depth research may be required.
Requirements:
-Master’s degree in a relevant field such as health systems, health management, health information, or public health.
-Experience in health information and health systems analysis
-Excellent knowledge of East Jerusalem
-Excellent Arabic
-Working knowledge of Hebrew an asset
-Proven English writing skills
-At least 5 years of working experience in a relevant field
-Ability to access Jerusalem
