Stars of Hope Organization

Stars of Hope Society (SHS) is a leading organization for women with all types of disabilities in Palestine. The organization was established in late 2006 and became fully operational in 2007, with its national secretariat based in Ramallah. The organization is a Disabled People’s Organization (DPO) and is run by women with disabilities for women with disabilities. It is the only organization of its kind in Palestine and one of only a small number internationally. Stars of Hope Society seek to ensure opportunities in all walks of life for all women with disabilities.
Stars of Hope Society, was established due to discrimination and prejudice against women with disabilities, in addition to the fact that there was no organization or program specifically targeting the needs of this group. Stars of Hope Society established itself with the goal of supporting women with disabilities in Palestine to improve the lives of women with disabilities.

About the Project

Over the years, women with disabilities in Palestine have experienced violations of human rights from various members of the Palestinian society and in different aspects, in education, employment, marriage, social participation, etc. Stars of Hope Society have convened many meetings on the role of women with disabilities as key actors on protecting their own rights. Furthermore, Stars of Hope Society believes that it is about time women with disabilities in Palestine become the advocates for their rights. Therefore SHS will provide women with disabilities with the skills and trainings needed to advocate for their rights in an environment that encourages critical and creative thinking about different approaches to rights of women with disabilities.
