Background on CISS
CISS - Cooperazione Internazionale Sud Sud, is an Italian Non-Governmental Organization founded in Palermo in 1985, officially recognized by the Italian Ministry of Foreign Affairs as an organization eligible to promote and implement cooperation projects in developing Countries (law 1989/128/3638/O, 6th December 1989). CISS is an NGO of solidarity and international cooperation, whose main purpose is to intervene in favor of the most vulnerable populations in various geographical and socio-economic contexts. CISS has been committed to supporting the Palestinian population since 1988, and has implemented various projects including the management and improvement of water resources, mental health and child protection, preservation of natural and cultural heritage, integrated agricultural development, gender and women empowerment, psychosocial programs, capacity building for community-based organizations, and support for the most vulnerable groups in East Jerusalem and the Occupied Palestinian Territories.
Cultural Heritage Expert (Mid-level)
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Cultural Heritage Junior Expert to join our team. The successful candidate will be under the supervision of the Project Manager, it is a full-time position with a fixed-term contract for 12 months with possibility of extension (including two months of probation period). The position is based in the Gaza Strip.The successful candidate will be responsible for working in the framework of the project “Preserving the past, safeguarding the future: protecting cultural heritage at risk in Gaza through restoration and community engagement”. The project aims to protect both tangible and intangible heritage: Tangible (Manuscripts of the Great Omari Mosque and Dar Al-Saada Dome), and Intangible (traditional crafts, stories, cultural practices, music, folklore).
Key Responsibilities and Duties:
- Develop and implement training programs for teachers on cultural heritage sites in the Gaza Strip.
- Prepare a teacher's training kit about cultural heritage in collaboration with the project team.
- Train university students to become human tour guides and conduct site visits to cultural heritage sites in the Gaza Strip.
- Supervise the implementation of tours conducted by human tour guides for school students.
- Conduct focus groups with members of the Elderly Society and document their untold stories.
- Collaborate with the project team to implement expression labs for school students, aimed at creating 3D movies and animation books that showcase cultural heritage sites in the Gaza Strip. Work closely with the students to ensure their perspective is represented in the final product.
- Provide regular inputs for the website, social media, and reports.
- Prepare reports on compliance with the assigned scope of work indicating progress towards expected results.
- Perform any other related tasks as deemed appropriate by the supervisor.

Bachelor's Degree in Architecture, Archaeology, History, or a related field.
At least 2 years of experience in NGOs and/or cultural institutions and cultural heritage preservation and promotion.
Strong knowledge of the cultural heritage sites in the Gaza Strip.
Experience in developing and implementing training programs for teachers and university students.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Very good proficiency in both Arabic and English languages.
Knowledge in Italian language is an asset.
