The Lutheran World Federation is looking for an Deputy Director of Finance and Administration for the LWF Jerusalem Program.

The Lutheran World Federation (LWF) is a global communion of 148 churches in the Lutheran tradition, representing 75.5 million Christians in 99 countries. LWF World Service works in 25 countries in Africa, Asia, the Middle East, Latin America and the Caribbean. LWF Jerusalem program has served the Palestinians in Jerusalem, West Bank and Gaza through humanitarian, health and educational programs since 1948. LWF manages the Augusta Victoria Hospital, two vocational training centers in Ramallah and in East Jerusalem and its central office is on the Mount of Olives.

Terms of Reference

Main Outcome of the position:

This is a senior level management position that reports directly to the Director of Finance and Administration (DFA). The Deputy DFA is an integral part of the Finance team and is responsible for leadership and assistance with the strategic and tactical execution of all accounting and finance initiatives as well as project management and development projects. This will include assisting in the direction of the LWF’s overall financial policies, and overseeing all financial functions including accounting, budget, tax, etc… 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee all financial functions, including accounting, budgeting, financial reporting, and tax compliance.
  • Prepare or oversee the preparation of all required reports and maintain appropriate records.
  • Oversee and manage cash, accounts payable, and accounts receivable.
  • Make sure all balance sheet accounts are reconciled on a monthly basis (cash, accounts receivable, and accounts payable).
  • Coordinate activities between units within the department.
  • Advise and assist staff members on accounting policies and interpret/apply said policies to the various financial functions.
  • Respond to inquiries and concerns in a timely manner.
  • Keep the DFA informed, through proper channels, of potential problems or unusual events.
  • Keep well informed about current trends and best practices in areas of responsibility.
  • Lead the internal preparation for all audits and work with outside auditors to ensure successful and timely completion of audits.
  • Help manage financial budgeting and forecasting processes, to ensure alignment with and achievement of organizational strategies and priorities.
  • Develop any financial and accounting policies and procedures as needed.
  • Coordinate with the AVH Deputy Director of Finance on the reporting of development projects.
  • Coordinate with LWF Geneva on technical issues related to SAGE.
  • Perform other tasks as assigned by the DFA or the Representative.

Job Requirements

Requirements:

1. Educational Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field (required). Master’s degree and/or CPA preferred.

2. Experience

  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in financial management and administration, including team management.
  • Accounting software Knowledge and proficiency in SAGE or similar accounting software.
  • Strong knowledge of MS Office, particularly Excel, for preparing reports and conducting financial analysis.
  • Familiarity with financial reporting standards and Current working knowledge of IFRS/FASB Pronouncements.
  • Strong knowledge of budgeting, financial reporting, and preparation for the audit.
  • Understanding of tax regulations.
  • Strong attention to detail to ensure accuracy.
  • Good organizational skills to manage multiple reports, tasks and deadlines.

5. Communication and Collaboration Skills

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to liaise with the finance directors, suppliers, and auditors.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with the finance team and other departments, as needed.
  • Excellent organizational, and leadership.

6. Other Requirements

  • Ability to handle sensitive financial information confidentially.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time efficiently to meet deadlines.
  • A proactive attitude towards continuous learning and adapting to new financial systems or processes.
