Deputy Medical Coordinator

Hours: Full time, with some weekend and evening working required to support the humanitarian programme delivery

Pay: Up to $3,000 USD gross per month (dependent on experience)

Location: Gaza

Duration: 3 month consultancy contract with a possibility of extension pending successful probation period.

We are seeking a National Medical Professional with expertise in humanitarian response, conflict, and disaster medicine to provide leadership across our health programs in Gaza.

UK-Med is an NGO providing emergency health support in times of crisis and humanitarian emergencies. We provide clinical support, as well as training and capacity building for health professionals around the world, with particular focus on countries vulnerable to natural disasters, outbreaks or with weakened health systems due to complex emergencies. As a key partner of the UK Emergency Medical Team (UK EMT), we work closely with FCDO and the WHO, but we are also growing our own programmes. Our work has never been more vital, with disease outbreaks and disasters becoming more frequent, complex and severe.

We are seeking an experienced national medical professional to join our growing team in a key leadership role.

The ideal candidate will have significant experience in emergency response and disaster medicine, especially in conflict and migration contexts. You will lead medical teams, develop field-level strategies, design health interventions, and contribute to grant proposals. In this role, you’ll collaborate with the Ministry of Health, WHO, and other partners while ensuring clinical care meets international standards.

Requirements:

• Registered Medical Doctor with at least 2 years of experience, ideally in emergency medicine or surgery.
• Strong leadership and communication skills.
• Proficiency in Arabic and B2-level English.
• Experience coordinating with NGOs and international organizations.

Qualifications / Professional Memberships
1 Qualified and licensed Medical Doctor

2 Hold board certification in a medical specialty. Postgraduate specialization is mandatory, preferably in emergency medicine or surgery.

Knowledge, Skills and Experience
Significant professional experience (expected to be at least 2 years) in the areas of complex humanitarian emergencies, disaster medicine, and/or familiarity with the health context and medical challenges in Gaza.

Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills Essential
Ability to work under pressure and adapt to rapidly changing conditions.
Proficiency in coordinating with a range of stakeholders including international agencies, local authorities, and NGOs.
Understanding of and a firm commitment to raising standards of patient care, with a strict adherences to best practices in relation to safeguarding, protection, health and safety and equality
Regulatory Requirements: Must not currently be employed by the Ministry of Health.
Proficiency Arabic. English at a minimum of B2 level (written and spoken).

Practical requirements
Willing to comply with and able to pass local medical and safeguarding checks required to ensure suitability for post.
Willingness to work some weekends and evenings as required to deliver on humanitarian emergencies
