DEVELOPMENT OFFICER
Background
The Hospital is undergoing a process of refocusing its services. This is almost a two year project and accordingly – this position will be a two year contract. Possibilities of extension are subject to the outcome of the strategic planning process. The primary duties detailed hereunder for the position could initially have the priority – however, the secondary are equally important in the intermediate term. Therefore, a candidate with a well-rounded business background would be ideal.
Job Purpose
The Development Officer assists in creating and overseeing the implementation of a strategic approach to fundraising. Furthermore, the person will play a vital role in the process of planning for the development of the hospital services.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
Assist in the strategic Planning of the Hospital
-Collaborate with the Chief Executive in the process of strategic planning of the hospital with the aim of becoming a Center of Excellence in Pediatric sub-specialty
-Prepare business plans and proposal as needed
-Coordinate and manage work of different consultants in the strategic process of the hospital development project
-Prepare and review budgets when and if needed
-undertaking research into the industry sector, markets and competitors
-collecting, analyzing and interpreting data and statistics
-compiling and presenting information verbally, visually and in writing
-identifying and assessing the pros and cons of possible strategies
-outlining objectives
-developing, advising about and implementing agreed solutions
Secondary Duties and Responsibilities
Plan fund development activities
-Collaborate with the Chief Executive Officer to create a fund development plan which increases revenues to support the strategic direction of the organization
-Implement the fund development plans in accordance with ethical fundraising principles
-Monitor and evaluate all fundraising activities to ensure that the fundraising goals are being achieved
Organize fund development activities
-Develop and manage timelines for various fundraising activities to ensure strategic plans and critical fund raising processes are carried out in a timely manner
-Develop policies and procedures for the development department which reflect ethical fundraising practices
-Prepare and submit grant applications as outlined in the fund development plan to generate funds for the organization. Manage Grants through the complete project management cycle – Grant application, Budgeting, reporting (both financial and narrative), etc.
-Oversee the planning and execution of special fundraising events as specified in the fund development plan to generate funds for the organization
-Identify and develop corporate, community and individual prospects for the organization's fundraising priorities
-Performs other duties as assigned
Manage fund development budget
-Prepare regular reports on progress, budgets, receipts and expenditure related to fundraising and the management of the fund development activities
-Monitor expenses and analyze budget reports on fund development and recommend changes as necessary
Promote the organization
-Assist the PR office in the development a comprehensive communication plan to promote the organization to its donors and maximize public awareness of the fundraising activities of the organization
-Coordinate the PR Manager the design, printing and distribution of marketing and communication materials for development efforts
-Build relationships with community stakeholders to advance the mission and fundraising goals of the organization
Qualifications
Education
-A Masters Degree in Business administration – or proven extensive relative experience could be considered.
Knowledge, skills and abilities
-Business management and planning – general knowledge
-Project cycle management competency is preferred.
-Knowledge of fundraising management
-Knowledge of special events planning and management
-Strong accounting/Financial background is desired
-Strong communication skills in reading and writing – Arabic and English – German is a plus.
