Disability Officer

THE ORGANIZATION:

Handicap International, is An International NGO specialising in the field of disability and development. A strong emphasis is placed on empowering people with disabilities through their integration into mainstream development activities and the provision of appropriate health and rehabilitation services to ensure equal opportunities for all.
Handicap International is currently supporting local partners to implement projects in Gaza for physical rehabilitation, production of prostheses, distribution of other assistive devices, empowerment of persons with disabilities and mainstreaming of disability.

THE JOB
Under the supervision of the Project Manager, the Disability Officer is responsible for:

• Assisting in developing training packages related to empowering families of persons with disabilities, occupational therapists, and disability mainstreaming
• Assisting in delivering training to families of persons with disabilities, occupational therapists, and organisations interested in disability mainstreaming
• Translation of training materials and information related to project activities
• Organizing the logistics of consultants visits
• Assisting the project manager with reporting on project activities
• Disseminating information on disability to stakeholders
• Promote Disability in the Cluster System
• Researching and assisting in the production of Disability sub-Cluster publications

Skills required:

Bachelor Degree in Occupational Therapy
Fluent in both written and spoken English
Excellent computer skills, especially in the use of publisher
Knowledge of project cycle management, especially logical frameworks
Experience in designing and implementing training
Willingness to travel to the field
Excellent communication skills
Excellent organisational skills
Experience in the development sector is an asset

Initial contract will be for a period of five months and the position is based at the Gaza Office
