The UNOPS Mine Action Cluster has supported Mine Action efforts in both emergency and post conflict settings. It delivers fast procurement, recruitment and management services to facilitate humanitarian aid and launch emergency mine clearance.

United Nations Mine Action – Gaza Office will continue to implement Operations in Gaza during 2012 for a period of 12 months. This residual capacity will continue to contribute to a safer living and operating environment for the people of Gaza and the Humanitarian development agencies. Through this continued residual mine action capacity, prevention and reduction of the risk of death and injury as a result of UXO contamination will be achieved. This will be achieved by providing technical assistance, the delivery of UXO safety awareness training, limited risk assessments, IED advice and awareness training, and limited UXO/ERW location and marking.
Functional Responsibilities

Under the direct supervision of the UNMAT Operations Officer, the UNMAT Gaza Driver/Transportation Assistant will be responsible for the following duties:

-Drive the assigned vehicle(s) for the transport of authorized personnel, following National and UN rules and regulations for vehicle safety and security.
-Responsible for safe and secure transport support for the uplift of UNMAT personnel, stores and equipment, arriving and departing Gaza, for Admin, Operational and Emergency tasks
-Complete Radio Checks and reports required on all tasks to the relevant radio rooms
-Responsible for the day-to-day maintenance of the assigned vehicle(s): checks oil, water, battery, brakes, tires, etc., perform other minor repairs and arrange for external repairs and ensure that the vehicle is kept clean and in good working order.
-Log official trips, daily mileage, gas/fuel consumption, oil changes, and other required maintenance services in accordance with the manufacturer’s handbook/instructions.
-Ensure all inwards and outwards goods in transit are secured and delivered according to task.
-Assist the CLA with MRE and Safety Training as and when scheduled
-Operates photocopying, scanning, fax machines as required by the Operations Officer.
-Ensure that the procedures required for National Road Transport rules and regulations are followed in the case of any road traffic accidents, to including immediate reporting and follow-up written reports.

Other duties may include:
-Ensure the security of all vehicles during daily routine tasks
-Manning the radio, as required,
-Any other tasks and functions assigned by the UNMAT Program Manager and Operations Officer

Education/Experience/Language requirements

Education:
Secondary Education

Experience:

-At least two years work experience as a driver with safe driving record. Experience with Large suburban vehicles and 4x4 an advantage (advantage will be given to applicants with over five years of experience)
-Required to pass a UN test/evaluation to drive an Armoured and Ambulance vehicle.
-An excellent knowledge of safe driving rules and regulations with defensive driving abilities an advantage.
-Knowledge of Gaza road routes, both Rural and City is ESSENTIAL
-Knowledge of Map reading and Global Positioning System is an advantage
-Capable of working in a multi-national / cultural environment
-Flexibility in undertaking any kind of assignment with a requirement to work extended hours if required
-Computer knowledge and familiarity with Microsoft programs will be an advantage
-Ability to travel throughout the Gaza region as required
-VHF Radio communication experience and skills is ESSENTIAL 
-Any proven medical experience or qualifications with a Certificate in First aid/Trauma are an advantage. 
-Experience with UN and international organizations, will be a distinct advantage.

Language:
Fluent in Arabic and good oral and written skills in English is ESSENTIAL
Certifications

A current valid driving license in Gaza Strip is essential.
Certificate in First aid/Trauma is an advantage
