The Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) is a non-governmental, humanitarian organization with 60 years of experience in helping to create a safer and more dignified life for refugees and internally displaced people. NRC advocates for the rights of displaced populations and offers assistance within the shelter, education, emergency food security, legal assistance, and water,sanitation and hygiene sectors.

The Norwegian Refugee Council has approximately 5000 committed and competent employees involved in projects across four continents. In addition, NRC runs one of the world’s largest standby rosters -NORCAP, with 650 professionals, ready to be deployed on 72 hours notice when a crisis occurs

Large-scale displacement took place during the wars of 1948 and 1967, when Israel occupied the West Bank, including East Jerusalem and the Gaza Strip. Many of those displaced have never been able to return. There are currently over 5 million Palestinian refugees spread across Palestine, as well as in Jordan, Lebanon and Syria.

Internal displacement within Palestine remains a concern. Communities come under increasing risk of forcible transfer and other Intentional Humanitarian Law violations, stemming from Israeli policies and practices.

NRC has been active in Palestine since 2009, working across Gaza and the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, to reach Palestinians who are displaced or who face imminent threats of displacement. Our offices in Jerusalem, Ramallah, Hebron and Gaza, provide legal counselling to promote access to human rights, shelter, water and sanitation, and quality education. Nationally and globally, we advocate for the rights of displaced Palestinians and together with local authorities and community-based organisations, we establish mechanisms for monitoring the needs of displaced Palestinians, and promoting community-owned solutions.


Role and responsibilities

    Promote safe and secure transportation of NRC personnel and deliveries throughout East Jerusalem, the West Bank, and Israel.
    Perform any transportation for Administrative and Logistics needs.
    Adhere to daily driving schedules and, where necessary, assisting with organizing schedules to ensure maximum efficiency.
    Perform daily Checking of the route, road, location, destination and security situation before each journey and reporting back to the Security Focal Point about movements.
    Prepare an updated vehicle log book with information about movements and fuel consumption.
    Follow up on any private movement done with the car and report any missing information in the log book immediately.
    Perform Checking that all tools (jacks etc) and items (spare tyres and first aid kit etc) are always kept in the vehicle.
    Perform daily vehicle checks, water, oil, tyres, etc.
    Adhere to all NRC oPt security and safety policies and guidelines, including any updated information.
    Adhere to safe driving practices and respecting speed limits as required within the law of OPT and Israel.
    Perform carrying out loading/unloading duties as required.

    Prepare a report immediately to the Security/logistics coordinator in case of any accident; follow NRC procedures applicable in such situation

     Carry out any other tasks required by Management

Our Ideal Candidate:

    At least 4 years of experience working as a driver
    Preferable experience working with an NGO or International organisation in Jerusalem and the West Bank
    Valid and clean driving license
    Good spoken English and Hebrew
    Willingness to work outside normal working hours, if required.

Additional Information:

Contract period: 12 months

Salary/benefits: According to NRC’s salary scale and terms and conditions

Duty station: Jerusalem, 5% travel if needed. .
