Driver/Mechanic Assist

MSF Spain is looking for a Driver with Mechanical background in Gaza to perform the tasks of transporting authorized goods and passengers in an MSF vehicle, ensuring its technical and safety conditions and respecting the country's traffic rules and MSF security rules.

Assist carrying out tasks with regards to the servicing, repair and maintenance of MSF vehicle fleet according to MSF standards and procedures and the mechanic's instructions, in order to ensure the proper running of the vehicles. In order to provide a safe, smooth and efficient service.

Accountabilities

• Checking daily, the technical conditions of the assigned vehicle (state of the tires, oil, fuel, brakes, radio equipment, spare parts, etc.), performing weekly check according to the MSF Logbook, refilling it when necessary, and keeping it clean to ensure it can be driven in perfect conditions. Carrying out a hand over if another uses the vehicle
• Performing tasks as per the mechanic's instructions, testing vehicles after each service is concluded.This includes but are not limited to the following:
  • Carrying out A services on vehicles, according to the instructions listed in the log book or MSF documents, Carrying out B services in big workshops and assisting with B and C services for vehicles, under the mechanic's supervision
  • Filling in logbook regarding services, spare parts, repairs and maintenance carried out in each vehicle. Filling in stock cards of spare parts and carrying out physical stock inventory on a regular basis
• Ensuring cleanliness of common working areas
• Informing superiors of any mechanical or other problems related to the vehicles and when repairs are required as a result of inappropriate driving or use of vehicles and equipment.
• Ensuring the security of passengers in the vehicle, driving carefully, observing speed limits and traffic rules in the country as well as MSF security rules, in order to avoid car accidents.
• Ensuring all passengers have all necessary papers in order before travelling, and ensuring non MSF staff are authoried to be passengers and sign disclaimers of responsibility before using the vehicle
• Ensure correct loading and unloading of the vehicle, in particular:
  • Submit the documents to the receiver of the goods.
  • Check the status of delivered goods.
  • Return the duly completed documents to Logistics.
  • Ensure that the goods have the necessary documents
• Ensuring that all vehicle documents and the driver's driving license are valid and in the vehicle.
• Informing the line manager of any incident involving the transportation of passengers and/or goods.
• Knowing how to use all types of radios, codes, call numbers and radio alphabets by heart and communicating with base according to MSF communications policy to inform the driver's position and any potential implications.
