MdM is a medical humanitarian NGO. Since 1980, MdM has worked independently around the world to guarantee universal and sustainable access to healthcare.

In Palestine, the objectives of the programs are to limit the medical impact of the restrictions in accessing medical care on the Palestinian population, to improve mental health and psychosocial care and to bear witness to the violations of the right to health.

MAIN OBJECTIVE

The Drug Dispenser will support the implementation of a comprehensive primary health care service package at MdM's fixed or mobile clinics, covering general medical care, maternal and child health, non-communicable diseases, emergency care, and mental health and psychosocial support (MHPSS) beneficiaries. This role is crucial for enhancing access to essential primary health care services, providing health education, and coordinating patient referrals within vulnerable communities. The primary responsibilities include organizing, dispensing, and managing medical supplies within the clinic, delivering health education to patients, and coordinating referrals to appropriate medical services, thereby ensuring the efficient use and distribution of medical supplies and supporting the overall health and well-being of the community.

 

SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES

Under the supervision of the Medical Manager, the Drug Dispenser will be responsible for the following key activities to ensure the quality of care at the Medical clinic and/or Mobile Medical Team (MMT):

  • Pharmacy Stock Management: Efficiently manage the inventory of the pharmacy, ensuring adequate supplies are maintained.
  • Medication Dispensing: Dispense medications to patients as formally prescribed by clinic doctors.
  • Patient Counseling: Ethically advise and inform patients about their medications, including usage instructions and potential side effects.
  • Data Collection and Analysis: Collect, computerize, and analyze weekly drug consumption data to monitor usage trends and optimize inventory.
  • Reporting and Meetings: Prepare reports and actively participate in various meetings to discuss medical activities and improve service delivery.

TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Pharmacy Stock Management

  • Preparation: Ensure all necessary drugs, materials, and equipment for the clinic are prepared and ready before departure from the MdM office.
  • Inventory Management: Conduct comprehensive stock management (in/out) at the clinic.
  • Consumption Calculation: Calculate daily consumption for each item to anticipate shortages.
  • Physical Inventory: Perform weekly physical inventory of the clinic pharmacy.
  • Drug Orders: Prepare weekly drug orders for the MdM central pharmacy with assistance from medical doctors and paramedic staff.

 Medication Dispensing

  • Prescription Fulfillment: Dispense medications according to medical prescriptions.
  • Labeling: Indicate the name, presentation, and dosage of medications on dispensing bags.
  • Patient Instructions: Explain to patients how to take their medications and ensure understanding.
  • Side Effects: Inform patients about potential side effects of medications.
  • Consumption Documentation: Complete daily consumption forms for each item.
  • Confidentiality and Respect: Maintain patient confidentiality and treat all patients with respect and dignity.

 Patient Counseling

  • Therapeutic Education: Provide therapeutic education to patients, addressing inquiries about the effects, dosing, frequency, administration, and storage of dispensed drugs/supplies in a polite, informative, safe, and effective manner.
  • Health Awareness: Assist in conducting health awareness sessions on various topics as suggested by the MEDICAL CLINIC/MMT focal point, medical supervisor, or manager.

 Data Collection and Analysis

  • Daily Data Collection: Gather daily consumption data from the clinic.
  • Weekly Analysis: Participate in the weekly computerization and analysis of drug consumption data.

 Reporting and Meetings

  • Activity Reporting: Prepare weekly activity reports for submission to the pharmacist and clinic's medical supervisor.
  • Meeting Participation: Actively participate in MdM internal meetings (medical, security, etc.).
  • Training Participation: Attend all training sessions organized or endorsed by MdM.

 Specific Responsibilities

  • Operational Improvement: Provide suggestions to improve the functioning of MdM clinics.
  • Flexibility: Adapt to various duties to ensure beneficiaries receive high-quality services.
  • Additional Duties: Perform other tasks as requested by the clinic’s focal, medical supervisor/manager.
  • Security Reporting: Immediately inform the security focal point of any security issues in the field.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED SKILLS AND COMPETENCES

Education:

  • Mandatory: Pharmacy degree (bachelor mandatory, and valid professional license certificate to practice issued by MoH.

Experience:

  • Mandatory: at least 2 years of Professional experience in working in a Health Care settings
  • Desirable: previous work experience in primary healthcare/mobile clinic settings
  • Desirable: Previous work experience with NGO/INGO in similar positions.

Languages:

  • Mandatory: Fluency in Arabic. Excellent reading and writing skills in English

Computer Skills:

  • Mandatory: Proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Soft Skills:

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • High level of confidentiality, empathy, and sensitivity.
  • Flexibility, adaptability, and capacity to work in a team and under pressure.
