Engineer, USAID/WBG Basic Education Activity

Summary: Creative Associates seeks an Engineer for the anticipated USAID-funded West Bank/Gaza Basic Education Activity (BEA), which will strengthen education services for Palestinian children of KG 1 through Grade 6 that enable them to thrive and reach their full developmental potential. Under the Basic Education Activity, USAID seeks to work with the private sector, non-formal, non-governmental, community-based, UN, and civil society partners to strengthen early childhood and primary educational opportunities through high quality early childhood education services and supplemental support structures to strengthen foundational pre-primary and primary education for children in the West Bank, Gaza, and East Jerusalem. Specific areas of focus anticipated include strengthening foundational skills in literacy, numeracy, social emotional learning (SEL)/soft skills, building teacher and student resilience capabilities and assets, and strengthening pathways between non-formal to formal education.

Responsibilities: The Engineer will be responsible for conducting site visits, overseeing the design, implementation and acceptance of the non-structural cosmetic and beautification work according to the environmental and safety standards as well rehabilitation activities and other types of school-related infrastructure. The engineer will also be responsible for quality assurance requirements. The engineer’s duties include using software programs to design structural blueprints, while adhering to construction laws and environmental constraints, visiting construction sites to monitor the building process, oversee contractors’ work and ensure adherence to quality assurance requirements.

Job Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering. Master's degree highly preferred
  • Licensed Civil Engineer
  • Minimum five years of experience in the construction/rehabilitation of educational and WASH facilities
  • Experience working with international donors
  • Practicing engineering work in the West Bank and / or Gaza, highly preferred
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Fluency in Arabic. Working level knowledge of English
