Job Title: Environment, Health and Safety Officer (EHSO)

Location: Gaza Industrial Estate (GIE), Gaza Strip.

Employer: PWS JV Company. An incorporated company to construct the largest PV Solar Plant in Palestine, on the rooftopss of the GIE, with capacity of 7 MWp..

Job Purpose

The primary functions of EHOS are to develop, monitor and implement the PWS JV environment, health and safety policies; to ensure the PWS JV is compliant with local environment, health and safety legislations; and to reduce or prevent hazards, dangers and accidents. This role not only ensures the health and safety of the workers but also of the workplace, environment and public.

The responsibilities of an EHOS includes the following:

Develop and implement policies: ensure policies and procedures are in place and enforced.

Inspections: Conduct regular EHS inspections and audits of the workplace for potential hazards, identify potential hazards, assess the risks and report potential hazards.

Conduct drills: conduct drills, such as fire drills, to ensure equipment is properly functioning and staff are aware of what to do in an emergency.

Conduct investigations: respond to and investigate accidents and emergencies.

Ensure compliance: ensure the PWS JV is compliant with legislative and regulatory requirements, conduct trainings with staff to make sure they are aware of regulations and procedures and provide guidance.

Administrative tasks: keep records of daily activities, monitor workers’ compensation program and maintain reference materials.

Other: Assume additional EHS roles as required.

Qualifications

A bachelor’s degree in environmental health or related field is typically required for this position along with at least 3 years of experience in areas such as fire prevention, environmental health, industrial hygiene or safety. Furthermore, continuing education, such as safety training classes, is a plus.

Other Skills

The EHSO should have ability to prepare plans, reports, basic computer skills, extensive knowledge of local laws and regulations.
