Environmental and Social Sustainability Officer

Bank of Palestine is seeking to recruit a qualified candidate for the position of “Environmental and Social Sustainability Officer” to join the Sustainable Banking Department team.

Location: Ramallah

Responsibilities:

• Help create sustainability & ESG KPIs and commitments and their measurement tools.
• Contribute to preparing the bank’s environment and social policies, regulations, and procedures. 
• Contribute to the bank's efforts to build the environment and social management system (ESMS), environment and social management plan (ESMP), and environment and social action plan (ESAP). 
• Monitor the implementation of the bank’s environmental and social management policies and procedures. 
• Conduct impact studies of relevance and provide advice related to enhancing strategy and action plan developments. 
• Work with departments to assess gaps against the bank’s environment and social requirements\ policies and prepare ESAP.
• Conduct site visits to credit clients to ensure compliance with environmental and social policies.
• Validate the categorization of the project's risk profile against environmental and social.
• Post-disbursement, work with clients to improve their environmental and social management systems, policies, and procedures, including the implementation of environment and social action plans.
• Regularly monitor the client’s compliance with the bank’s environment and social requirements and policies, including the implementation of agreed action plans.
• Contribute to the delivery of environment and social training for internal relationship teams, credit risk management, and clients where possible.
• Prepare reports related to environment and social performance for bank and external partners.
• Become the lead representative for the bank in terms of environment and social issues. 
• Support the sustainability team in the technical components of the annual sustainability report.

Job Requirements:

• Bachelor's degree in Environmental Engineering, Environmental or Social Studies; Development Studies\ Development Finance; or a relevant field.
• 5 years of experience in Environmental and Social Sustainability, preferably within environmental and social sustainability consulting, development finance, financial investments, or a similar role.
• Excellent control of the English language is a must.
• Strong communication, interpersonal and mentoring skills.
• Effective negotiation skills.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Enjoy working as part of a team.

Technical Competencies:

• Knowledge of relevant sectors and environmental and social.
• Insight into the challenges associated with implementing environmental and social improvements.
• Familiarity with the application of the Performance Standards or similar standards. 
• Experience analyzing\ implementing the environmental or social management systems of companies.
• Ability to work with numbers, metrics for KPIs, and measurement of KPIs.
