Youth for Environmental Sustainability Project

Introduction:

Palestine Polytechnic University (PPU) has received a fund from USAID to implement the Youth for Environmental Sustainability Project through the Active Citizenry Activity Project.  The YES project aims to transfer knowledge for environmental protection and combating climate change sound practices to the most vulnerable local communities in Hebron by the voice of the youth represented by PPU students. This will be accomplished through establishing the environmental clubs at PPU and carrying out awareness and advocacy initiatives designed and delivered by the students in the themes of circular economy and three R’s including water, sanitation, and hygiene - WASH, Renewable Energy, biodiversity, and smart technologies for the environment.

We are looking for a highly qualified Environmental Expert to lead the development of an internal environmental policy paper and manuals for our environmental clubs as part of the YES Project. The selected candidate will be crucial in guiding PPU toward adopting best practices in environmental sustainability.

 Location: Hebron, remotely

Responsibilities:

  • Policy Development: Research and draft an internal environmental policy paper for PPU, integrating best practices and scientific standards.
  • Manuals Creation: Design and develop four guideline manuals for environmental clubs, focusing on the circular economy, WASH, renewable energy, biodiversity, and smart technologies.
  • Facilitation and Workshop Organization: Facilitate workshops to review and discuss draft documents with the steering committee and senior management. Orientation Sessions:
  • Conduct orientation sessions to disseminate policy papers and manuals to relevant stakeholders.

Job Requirements

Requirements:

  • Advanced degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Management, or a related field.
  • Proven experience (minimum of 3 years) in developing environmental policies and manuals, preferably in educational or institutional settings.
  • Strong understanding of environmental best practices, scientific research, and academic standards.
  • Excellent project management and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.
  • Experience in leading workshops and training sessions effectively.
  • Familiarity with USAID project requirements and procedures is preferred.

Level of Effort and Period of Performance

  • This short-term environmental expert is for 30 days of level of effort (LOE) over 2 months, 20 hours weekly.
  • The consultant is expected to work part-time
  • The location of this assignment will be remotely

Results:

  • Delivery of a well-structured and comprehensive internal policy paper for ecological best practices and guidelines to adopt on and off campuses for PPU within Youth for Environmental Sustainability Project
  • guideline manuals for the 4 environmental clubs to set the roles and responsibilities of the club members, code of conduct, and ethics for ecological work at various levels of interventions
