The Palestinian Working Women’s Society for Development seeks a free and democratic Palestinian society based on gender equality, respect for human rights and social justice. PWWSD is a grassroots women and human rights organization working in Occupied Palestine aiming for gender equality and the eradication of all forms of discrimination against women, and combating Gender-based violence. PWWSD promotes: women self-empowerment, women’s participation in the struggle against the Israeli occupation, women’s contribution to the development processes, the entitlement of woman to political, economic and civic rights, and women’s access to justice.
PWWSD (as co-applicant) seeks a qualified full-time field researcher for the EU-funded project “Promoting democratic culture through rural cultural tourism clusters” along with Rozana association, PYALARA and Planet Life Economy Foundation (PLEF).
Contract Duration: 8 months, Based in Ramallah
Project Background:
The rule of law, as a core principle of governance, ensures stability, precision and transparency in public and private law processes. Development is less likely to take root in a sustainable fashion unless reforms are owned by civil society and supported by NGOs, and in this connection, the rule of law forms a pivotal point of reference for the empowerment and participation of marginalized groups. Linking rule of law and democracy to sustainable development, it remains important to promote 1) national dialogue for peace-building and development, 2) gender equality to increase political participation and representation of women to realize women’s economic and social rights, 3) support rule of law frameworks conducive to genuine local ownership whereby civil society is encouraged to participate more meaningfully and effectively in processes aimed at strengthening the rule of law, and 4) promote youth active engagement (with capacity building) in the development and implementation of national policies and strategies improving their access to employment and inclusion in different sectors.
The action’s overall goal is to advance community based - bottom up and participatory - tourism cluster governance in marginalized Palestinian villages as vehicles for enhanced social cohesion, intercultural national dialogue, identity building and protection of Palestine’s diversity. Tourism cluster governance is proposed as solid models for sustainable and socially accountable cultural platforms to be managed as a network that promotes Palestinian cultural identity and heritage with strong involvement of rural women and youth.
