Job Description

Leading NGO working in Palestine and Globally, nonprofit, nonpolitical, nonreligious humanitarian relief organization, looking to recruit Financial Director- one year contract- renewable upon Performance, as the Following: 

Duties:

The Financial Director be primarily responsible for maintaining the integrity of the financial statements, internal controls, and internal financial reporting for an international nonprofit organization with operations Globally. The Financial Director will develop their work plan to be approved quarterly and will be responsible for the following tasks and deliverables:

  • Monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements, including financial metrics as required by management and the Finance Committee
  • Reviewing and approving all journal entries for accuracy in the monthly, quarterly, and annual closing process- Globally 
  • Responsible for organization's long-term financial health and growth
  • Responsible for establishing strategies that will ensure financial sustainability, guide accounting operations
  •  Produce accurate reports on revenues, expenditures and charged with ensuring the stability of a company’s finances
  • Ensure and improve or change current practices to increase efficiency
  • Monitoring the top-level organizational budget and providing budget-to-actual analysis to management and the Board on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis
  • Preparing financial reports and data for all stakeholders
  • Creating and monitoring financial dashboards for management and the Board
  • Ensuring compliance with all tax and regulatory filings globally, and supervising any external contractors supporting the filings
  • Managing the annual financial audits to ensure they are completed accurately and finished on time
  • Developing and maintaining the organizational chart
  • Supervising accounting staff and processes Globally 
  • Serving as the liaison to the lead accountant in Palestine
  • Continuously monitoring, testing, evaluating, and recommending enterprise-wide financial controls 
  • Reporting to the Finance Committee when required
  • Testing and validating the integrity of the accounting systems
  • Serving as the liaison to global fundraising staff to ensure timely and accurate transfer of data to the accounting systems
  • Partnering with the Internal Audit function as required to support data gathering, compliance, and implementation of recommendations
  • Supporting the payroll processes globally, including timely and accurate information reporting for all payroll filings
  • Supporting monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting for programs and the evaluation of program financial efficiency
  • Creating and maintaining a cash management plan on a weekly and monthly basis; ensuring the organization has sufficient cash in operating accounts to meet expense projections
  • Tracking and managing revenue by source, including the proper management and aging of receivables
  • Monitoring endowment assets and making recommendations to growing and protecting investments
  • Tracking and monitoring restricted and unrestricted assets, including monthly journal entries releasing assets from restrictions based on expenditures
  • Maintaining a positive and professional demeanor, including appropriate communications based on the listener’s role and technical accounting knowledge and abilities
  • Such other projects as may be assigned  from time to time

Job Requirements

Requirements:

  • Undergraduate degree at a minimum; concentration in accounting or finance preferred; 
  • 12+ years of relevant experience minimum
  • CPA, CMA, CIA preferred, or equivalent academic or work experience
  • Outstanding professional and technical communication skills
  • Expert-level knowledge of IFRS for nonprofit organizations; U.S. GAAP knowledge a plus; fund accounting experience a plus
  • Extensive experience with Palestinian accounting, tax, and procurement regulations
  • Experience with tax provisions and tax calculations for nonprofit operations required
  • Knowledge of nonprofit revenue recognition and revenue planning required
  • Experience with implementing financial reporting processes and controls for large nonprofit organizations required
  • Experience with advising C-suite level executives and Finance Committees required
  • Experience developing organizational performance metrics, financial statement analysis, and creating financial dashboard required
  • Must be comfortable working with external and internal auditors, regulatory agency reporting, and the Bisan accounting modules/ERP system
