Background

Oxfam is seeking to recruit a fixer/ producer for an upcoming, character driven, documentary project to be filmed in Gaza in mid 2017, providing a human and accessible face to complex issues that need to be communicated in new and engaging ways to a general public.


The project will be up to 10 x 5 minute first person narrative short films, focusing on individuals living and working in Gaza and using their own stories and, in their own words, show their everyday lives and how they are impacted by ongoing humanitarian crisis.

Purpose
 
The objective of this consultancy is to hire a highly qualified and motivated fixer/ producer to help in carrying out the web series including short video vignettes, portraits and written profile pieces to reflecting day to day life in Gaza by delivering on the main tasks as identified in the scope of work and deliverables.

Description of tasks

The consultant is expected to:

-The fixer/ producer should conduct an initial 15 days of character and location research prior to the beginning of the project searching for people whose stories reflect the objectives of the project and provide a detailed character brief. The fixer/ producer will remain the conduit to arrange follow up filming with the crew and is expected to prepare and submit a detailed brief on each identified character
-Lead on all logistics prior to arrival and throughout the duration of filming, expected to be 30 calendar days. The fixer/ producer must understand the demands of working on a film shoot and be prepared for long hours and late nights.
-Be responsible for all preparations for the arrival of the crew.
-Accompany the crew for the duration of the shoot to lead the interview process, provide simultaneous translation, assisting in camera equipment and lighting etc and provide daily review of interviews conducted to highlight missed opportunities.


Expected output

Research and provide a detailed character brief of 10-12 identified people which includes summaries of short pre-interviews, profile picture and short CV of contact details basic information, short narrative paragraph detailing why, where, when, who and what makes the character unique as well as a short video clip of the character in their working environment

Coordinate all logistics, including permits and permissions and filming schedule prior and during the duration of the film shoot.


Time Frame and duty station

The total duration of this consultancy is 45 days between February and April 2017.

-The timeframe of this consultancy work is scheduled for a maximum of 15 working days to research and provide a detailed character brief in addition to accompanying the crew and managing logisitics for the duration of a 30 day shoot. The project is expected to take place between February and April, 2017.


Qualifications

-Strong written and spoken English / translation kills.
-Experience working with video production,
-Excellent knowledge of the Gaza context as well as the wider region
-Ability to connect crew with people living in Gaza with interesting stories
-Excellent storyteller and relationship builder who is able to cultivate trust to source characters and assist with interviews
-Excellent connections within Gaza
-Proven ability to show initiative
-Access to own vehicle
-Have a strong understanding of storytelling- especially for film.
-The  fixer/ producer is expected to have excellent on-the-ground knowledge of Gaza and existing contacts, able to update the crew on possible issues and abide my Oxfam security advise
