Action Against Hunger is recruiting in the Gaza Strip a
FSL HuB Operations Assistant
for 08 months.
The Operations Assistant is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Food Security and Livelihoods (FSL) Hub, which includes a master kitchen, rooftop garden, potential distribution point, and livestock care (e.g., chickens). The role encompasses cleaning, maintenance, gardening, animal care, security, and support to distribution activities. The Operations Assistant ensures the smooth functioning of the FSL Hub, maintaining a safe, clean, and productive environment for staff and beneficiaries.
Objective 1: Cleaning and Maintenance
- Facility Cleaning:
- Perform thorough cleaning of all areas within the FSL Hub, including offices, meeting rooms, kitchens, washrooms, and common areas.
- Ensure the master kitchen is cleaned and sanitized daily, adhering to hygiene and safety standards.
- Clean guest areas and prepare them for meetings, workshops, or visitors as needed.
- Dust and polish furniture, windows, doors, and equipment regularly.
- Empty waste bins and ensure proper waste disposal and recycling practices are followed.
- Equipment and Appliance Maintenance:
- Conduct routine inspections and perform minor repairs on electrical and mechanical equipment (e.g., lighting, appliances, plumbing fixtures).
- Carry out basic carpentry tasks, such as fixing doors, furniture, or shelving units.
- Execute painting tasks on walls, ceilings, and other surfaces to maintain the facility's appearance.
- Report any major maintenance issues to the supervisor promptly for further action.
- Safety and Compliance:
- Ensure compliance with safety and sanitary measures, including the proper use of cleaning equipment and chemicals.
- Use personal protective equipment (PPE) as required to prevent exposure to risks.
- Maintain records of cleaning schedules and maintenance activities.
Objective 2: Gardening and Animal Care
- Rooftop Garden Maintenance:
- Maintain and cultivate the rooftop garden, ensuring plants are healthy and well-cared for.
- Perform tasks such as watering, weeding, pruning, fertilizing, and pest control.
- Plan and implement seasonal planting schedules in coordination with the FSL team.
- Ensure the garden meets specific requirements and contributes to the Hub's sustainability initiatives.
- Animal Care:
- Feed and care for chickens and any other livestock on the premises.
- Clean and maintain animal enclosures to ensure a healthy environment.
- Monitor the health of the animals and report any concerns to the supervisor.
- Manage egg collection and coordinate with the kitchen staff for utilisation.
Objective 3: Security and Safety
- Premises Security:
- Monitor and maintain the security of the FSL Hub, including controlling access points.
- Ensure that doors, windows, and gates are secured when not in use.
- Report any suspicious activities or security breaches to the supervisor immediately.
- Emergency Response:
- Be prepared to respond to emergencies, such as fire or medical incidents.
- Participate in safety drills and training sessions as required.
- Assist in maintaining emergency equipment, such as fire extinguishers and first aid kits.
Objective 4: Support to Distribution and Kitchen Operations
- Distribution Support:
- Assist with the setup and organization of distribution points within the FSL Hub.
- Help manage crowds and support beneficiaries during distribution activities.
- Ensure that distribution areas are clean, safe, and adequately prepared.
- Kitchen Support:
- Support daily cooking operations by maintaining cleanliness and order in the kitchen.
- Assist kitchen staff with basic tasks as needed, following food safety protocols.
- Ensure that kitchen equipment is cleaned and stored properly after use.
Objective 5: Administrative and General Support
- Inventory Management:
- Monitor stock levels of cleaning supplies, maintenance materials, gardening tools, and report needs to the supervisor.
- Keep an organized inventory of equipment and materials used in daily operations.
- Coordination and Communication:
- Collaborate with the FSL team to schedule maintenance and cleaning activities without disrupting operations.
- Participate in team meetings to discuss operational needs and provide feedback.
- Documentation:
- Complete daily work logs and maintenance records to ensure accurate tracking of activities.
- Assist in the preparation of reports related to facility operations as required.
Objective 6: Flexibility and Other Duties
- Adaptability:
- Be flexible in handling various tasks that may arise, demonstrating initiative and problem-solving skills.
- Adjust work schedules as needed to accommodate special events or urgent maintenance issues.
- Additional Responsibilities:
- Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor that are consistent with the position and necessary for the organization’s success.

- High school diploma or equivalent; vocational training in maintenance, agriculture, or a related field is preferred.
- Proficiency in basic maintenance tasks, including electrical repairs, plumbing, carpentry, and painting.
- Knowledge of gardening techniques and plant care.
- Ability to operate and maintain cleaning equipment and gardening tools.
- Understanding of safety protocols and the use of PPE.
- Basic knowledge of kitchen hygiene and food safety practices.
- Strong sense of responsibility and trustworthiness.
- Good communication skills and the ability to work well with a diverse team.
- Courteous, patient, and tactful in interactions with staff and beneficiaries.
- Ability to handle sensitive information with confidentiality.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in facility maintenance, cleaning services, gardening, or similar roles.
- Experience in animal care, particularly poultry management, is highly desirable.
- Previous work with NGOs or in a humanitarian context is an advantage.
- Fluency in reading, writing, and speaking Arabic
- Basic understanding of English is an asset.
- National, Gaza (Middle Area or South).
