Job Description

Fundraising Coordinator – Part Time

Position: Fundraising Coordinator-Part Time
Period: One year (renewable based on funding)
Starting sate: ASAP
Reporting: Report to Executive Manager

Background:
(Provide a brief history of ARD INSAN)

Purpose:
Fundraising Coordinator will play major role within ARD INSAN. This job is at the epicenter of the organization and is the voice and face of that organization. She/he/he drives the overall functions of the organization’s fundraising strategies and its associated plans including proposal writing coordination. She/he/he ensures that ARD INSAN provides the funding for the activities that it participates in and coordinates within its scope of work. She/he/he will be exposed to a wide variety of responsibilities as a fundraising coordinator and a person in this role has to wear many hats. The following main tasks with its associated explanations.

Area of Responsibilities:

Main Task: Throwing Fundraisers
(Explanation): It is the job of the fundraising coordinator to solicit sponsors, get the advertising together, sell tickets, coordinate volunteers, cover the logistics of the event and, most importantly, make a profit. These events can bring the most exposure and profits to the organization in one fell swoop. The only drawback is sometimes it takes months, if not a full year, to plan and coordinate the biggest, most profitable events.
Main Task: Soliciting Major Donors
(Explanation): Soliciting major donors involves one-on-one meetings with the biggest supporters of the organization. Many times it takes years to get a major donor to make a sizable pledge ($500,000 and up). Yet, it is worth it to get that cash infusion into the organization. While this part of the job is stressful, it has a snowball effect on your donations. Once word has gotten out that you have a big name supporting you, others want to follow suit. It helps to extend the reach of the advertising of your organization as well.
Main Task: Business Development Grant/Proposal Writing

(Explanation): Grant/Proposal writing is an art form. For some reason, many fundraising coordinators have trouble with this part of the job. Grants can be intimidating. Many are several pages in length and require several hours of work to complete. The key to good grant writing is simple—follow the directions.
The most successful grant writers merely do that. Most of the people giving out the grants want to make sure their money is spent in the manner that the designate. If you send your grant in on white paper and the directions specifically said blue paper, how are they to know that you will spend the money as it is allocated? Simply following the instructions on the grant gets your proposal in the stack. Once you are there, you have to let your organization speak for it to be successful.

Main Task: Annual Campaigns

(Explanation): Annual solicitation campaigns are usually pretty cut and dried for most fundraising coordinators. There is a set list of individuals who are solicited, either by letter, phone or in person and asked for a repeat of their previous year’s donation.

Main Task: Public Relations and Advertising

(Explanation): Fundraising coordinators are the voice and face of their organization. They are out in the community trying to get donors. Send out press releases for the organization’s events and handle all of the publicity from the organization’s activities. The fundraising coordinator knows how to sell the organization and knows to finish every conversation by asking for a donation.

Main Task: Budgeting and Planning

(Explanation): The fundraising coordinator has to look at her activities throughout the year and come up with a sound budget projecting profits as a whole. Additionally, the fundraising coordinator has to look at the organization’s overall budget and make sure that the projected goals will cover the expenses of the organization. If not, there may need to be new events added or higher goals pushe/hed onto the fundraising function. The fundraising coordinator provides the funds to make the organization run.

Main Task: Working with and providing the needed help and support to the Executive Manager and the Board of Directors (when and as needed)
(Explanation): The Board of Directors of a non-profit organization helps guide the activities of that organization and provides contacts to further the organization’s purpose. Many times the Board of Directors consists of big donors or those who have direct contact with those big donors. This makes the Board of Directors somewhat intimidating. Yet, a good fundraising coordinator has nothing to worry about. If she/he is doing her job, the Board of Directors will help guide her to success in the long run.
