MSF-Belgium is currently seeking to hire a HEALTH PROMOTER IEC OFFICER

Main Purpose

 

Ø  Implement Health Promotion/IEC (Information, Education, Communication) activities with patients and local population to raise their knowledge and skills on relevant medical topics.

Accountabilities

 

·       Inform patients and communities about MSF and services it provides.

·       According to medical priorities, deliver information to the patients and community on specific health topics  

·       Implement health education and awareness activities through well-structured sessions in MSF health facility (patients, caretakers and staff) and community (eg. sessions in community based organizations, community focal points, ..), under the indications and supervision of the HP Supervisor.

·       Participate in the design and pre-testing of HP material, tools and messages to be adapted to the medical needs and socio-cultural context.

·       Participate in quantitative and qualitative data collection as per need and defined by the supervisor (e.g. socio-cultural and health assessments, MSF perception and acceptance, patient satisfaction survey, etc …)

·       Under the guide of HP Supervisor, assess the impact of activities (with questions, verifications and behaviors observations as well as data collection), and report problems, success and constraints to him/her.

·       Collect all types of information related to specific health and living conditions of the population, in particular to identify the most vulnerable populations to target.

·       Work in close collaboration with the medical team to identify, report and respond to patients’ need as well as support the medical team through adequate HP activities and messages (including participation in emergency activities in case of need)

·       Attend internal trainings and meetings as per need and as requested by the line Manager

·       Report to HP Supervisor: activities, problems met, strengths and constraints.

1.     Attendance and Involvement

 Respect time and schedule. Punctuality and attendance compliance.Treat patient according to MSF principles.

 Participate in field surveys or assessments as required.

Maintain good professional relationship with the staff.

Adhere personal and professional code of conduct.

Actively attend trainings and meetings.

 

2.     Health Promotion activities

Organize activities according to priorities and respect of activity planning – visit patient in OPD, IPD and Physiotherapy for health promotion and health education sessions.

Support Medical staff and Medical Secretary for patients for admission by providing welcome talks such as health facility organization, visiting hours, number of caretakers etc.

Support for further health education for discharge patients – importance of medicine compliance, treatment understanding, proper hygiene and respect of appointments.

Actively identify and analyze the needs of patient in relation to Health promotion i.e. formulate and conduct health promotion sessions for patient in waiting area.

Perform hygiene promotion in the MSF health facilities, among MSF staff, patients and their caretakers. Be aware about the hygiene status and health needs in the MSF hospital and report concerns, challenges and success to HP supervisor.

Offer patient and caretaker support and orientation towards services (eg.Mental Health, and physiotherapy)

Participate in data collection related to HP activities, survey and acceptance and report to HP Supervisor.

 Gather accurate and relevant data about health promotion activities, surveys and information about socio-cultural context.

 Organize and implement HP activities in the community and other health facilities under the guidance and supervision of the HP Supervisor and as per need / operational changes.

 

3.     Security information track

Must receive and transmit useful information to MSF team.

 Be attentive of informations and tasks given to him/her and recognize priorities which are meant for him/her.

Respect information confidentiality of internal or personal to which he/she has access.

 Respect MSF principles and advocacy.

Job Requirements

Requirements

Education

·         Bachelor’s degree, preferable in any health-related specialty, social communication, or teaching.

Experience

·       1-year experience in health promotion, social work and community mobilization.

·       Previous experience with youth and children an asset

Languages                      

·       English proficiency is essential (B1 spoken and written).
