Supervision received: The Information Technology Assistant reports to the Information & Communication Technology Officer or the designate.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Within delegated authority, the Information Technology Assistant will be responsible for the following  duties: (These duties are generic and thus are not all-inclusive nor are all duties carried out by all IT  Assistants)
-Assist in developing the WFP oPt Web-based site, (portal), including web-content management.
-Assist in building the database for the website with inputs from all units and sub-offices.
-Assist in developing the WFP oPt collaboration SharePoint site.
-Assist in supporting the corporate ORACLE database system. Including maintenance and backup.
-Assist in supporting eVoucher and Time attendance SQL database system. Including maintenance and backup.
-Support all WFP units with existing information systems.
-Assist all WFP units to develop new information systems.
-Assist in administrating user access to systems and databases, monitor system and application usage;
-Maintain web pages, electronic documents, statistical databases; maintain Information and Knowledge Management (IKM) applications and procedures and provide support to IKM users;
-Perform other related duties as required.

Expected Results:
-With initiative and judgement produces organised, accurate and well documented records with well analysed data and addresses unforeseen situations seeking advice and guidance from supervisor, as necessary. May assign work to staff in lower grades.

Critical Success Factors:
-Ability to review a variety of data, identify and adjust data discrepancies. Identify and resolve operational problems with substantial independence. Ability to obtain or give factual information of a non-routine nature involving interpretation of facts and requiring clarity of expression. Ability to perform detailed work, frequently of a confidential nature and/or to handle a large volume of work systematically, effectively and accurately. Ability to train other staff regarding relevant work responsibilities. Ability to work in a team environment and coordinate assignments to achieve common goals. Ability to deal patiently and tactfully with people of different national and cultural backgrounds.

Qualifications & Experience:
Education:
Secondary school education. Candidates having a BA certificate in IT will be given priority.

Experience:
At least four years of progressively responsible job related experience in information technology or telecommunications or information management, such as, WAN/LAN networking, operating systems, telephone services, radio unit, web design, registry or similar. Some experience in client support, such as, a Help Desk or User Support Unit, web design team, telephone maintenance service, e-marketing group, hotline, or similar.

Knowledge:
Advanced computer skills including keyboard/mouse skills and knowledge of common basic software packages. Knowledge of commonly used office equipment.

Language:
Fluency in both oral and written communication in the UN language in use at the duty station and in the duty station’s language, if different.

Desirable skills:
Experience working in an international organization or multicultural environment. Postsecondary school studies in an institute specialized in information technology or telecommunications or information management or ITIL training.
