Instructional Design Specialist

Summary: Creative Associates seeks an Instructional Design Specialist for the USAID-funded West Bank and Gaza (WBG) Basic Education Activity, which will strengthen education services for Palestinian children of KG 1 through Grade 6 that enable them to thrive and reach their full developmental potential. Under the Basic Education Activity, USAID seeks to work with the private sector, non-formal, non-governmental, community-based, UN, and civil society partners to strengthen early childhood and primary educational opportunities through high quality early childhood education services and supplemental support structures to strengthen foundational pre-primary and primary education for children in the West Bank, Gaza, and East Jerusalem. Specific areas of focus include strengthening foundational skills in literacy, numeracy, social emotional learning (SEL)/soft skills, building teacher and student resilience capabilities and assets.

Responsibilities: The Instructional Design Specialist (IDS) will work closely with and report to the Teaching and Learning Advisor (TLA) to support implementation of effective teaching and learning strategies to improve the delivery of education for students in KG1 through Grade 6. The Instructional Design Specialist will develop, implement, and evaluate curricula and instructional materials (based on learning theory and a systematic approach to design) to be used in private school and early childhood centers to advance learning strategies in Grades 1 through 6 remedial programs and in community-based programs targeting parents and community members. Create engaging learning activities and compelling course content that enhances retention and remedial curriculum. Work with subject matter experts and identify target audience’s training needs. The IDS is expected to apply tested instructional design theories, practice, and methods in creating supporting material/media (audio, video, simulations, role plays, games etc.) Conduct instructional analysis to evaluate educational goals, learning objectives, and student needs to design effective instruction materials and activities. 

The IDS will work with the TLA to develop instructional materials used in teacher training on designing and applying instructional materials. Training materials include presentation materials, participant guides, handouts, and job aids or other resources. The IDS will evaluate training, including assessing what was learned and whether the learning solution led to measurable behavior change. The IDS will conduct curriculum mapping to align learning materials and activities with academic standards and skills competencies for each grade level to ensure that the learning objectives and outcomes are appropriately staffed to facilitate development. 

The IDS will work from the project office in Ramallah and support programming in West Bank (including AREA C), East Jerusalem, and Gaza.

Job Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university in education, curriculum development, teacher education, instructional design, educational technology, or related field. MA is preferable. 
  • Minimum 4 years working experience in education.
  • Experience in curriculum and supplementation material development, and/or instructional development and evaluation. 
  • Experience integrating sound social emotional learning practices in the development of teaching and learning strategies. 
  • Experience in educational technology and design software. 
  • Experience in using assessment and measurement tools and developing materials for measuring PSS/SEL outcomes. 
  • Strong leadership skills and the ability to develop relations with technical staff, local counterparts, donors, and other stakeholders. 
  • Minimum four (4) years of work experience West Bank/Gaza. 
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Fluency in Arabic and working proficiency in English.
