Job Description
Save the Children Sweden fights for children’s rights. We influence public opinion and support children at risk. Our vision is a world in which all children’s rights are fulfilled – a world that respects and values each child, a world where all children participate and have influence, a world where all children have hope and opportunity.
Since 1960, Save the Children Sweden has been operational in the Middle East and North Africa region.
Our main focus of work is on children’s rights to education and protection. We give direct support to
more than 60 000 children and many more through advocacy and policy initiatives. Whereas our
regional office is in Beirut, we have country offices and activities in several countries in the region.
SCS is currently seeking: intern
Duty station: Ramallah office
Duration: 3 months, with possible extension
Deadline for applications: March 21, 2011
Save the Children Sweden (SCS) based in Jerusalem is a child rights organisation that works towards delivering immediate and lasting improvements to children’s lives worldwide and is currently looking for interns to start immediately within its internship programme. The aim of
the programme is to provide recent graduates with practicum in the field of child rights programming. It will place graduates in SCS projects across the West Bank, including East Jerusalem and Gaza in the framework of providing a meaningful work experience and developing potential candidates for future employment opportunities with SCS.
The successful candidate should have the following qualifications/
requirements:
-Minimum BA level in Law or Public Administration, Human Rights Studies Social Sciences or relevant field.
-Good English writing skills.
-Ability to communicate effectively.
-Strongly committed to working on child rights issues particularly within the mandate of Save the Children Sweden
-Eagerness to learn and eye for detail
-Hands-on and assertive
-Working knowledge of MS Office
-Drivers’ license is desirable
The tasks of the intern are the following:
Support the collection of data, and related research, into specific child protection themes; and to the communication and advocacy plan.
Conduct research to ensure and upgrade increased knowledge of issues related to Child Rights programming and actors in the location of service
Provide administrative and logistical support
Assist in the coordination of project activities with different project stakeholders
Develop and maintain an archiving system for programme documents
The Internship Programme is not based on remuneration, but does offer a modest stipend to cover transportation and other miscellaneous expenses. Internship
Length: In order to maximize the effectiveness of the program, a commitment of three months (renewable) is required, either fulltime or part-time (minimum 24 hours per week).
