Médecins Sans Frontieres (MSF – Doctors Without Borders) is an international humanitarian aid organization that assists in more than 70 countries with populations in distress, victims of natural or manmade disasters, and victims of armed conflicts, without discrimination and irrespective of religion, creed or political affiliation. To develop this work in the West Bank, we are recruiting one:
INTERPRETER
for Tulkarm (+ Back-Up Pool for Jenin)
MAIN PURPOSE: Perform oral and written translation, from the mission language to local language(s) or vice versa, to ensure simultaneous, accurate, friendly, respectful, objective, and fluent communication between MSF staff and the local population.
ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Translate documents from/to mission language into a local one upon request.
- Translate discussions/meetings as requested
- Always keep respect towards patients, collaborators, authorities, military factions, and MSF staff participating in discussions.
- Ensure confidentiality of all translations is maintained as directed by the Mission/Project coordination team.
- Ensure neutrality and accuracy when translating.
- Declare any “conflict of interest” when asked to translate (e.g. personal involvement) which would necessitate using other staff members for translation.
- Inform international staff about local customs, traditions, etc., which will help them understand better the context and better communicate.

CANDIDATE PROFILE:
Education
- University degree in English language, translation, or related field (health degree would be an asset)
- Professional training in translation
Experience
- Essential at least two years of previous working experience. Desirable in MSF or other NGOs
- Experience in written and oral translations and performing administrative tasks
Languages
- Excellent command of English and Arabic is essential
Knowledge
- Good computer skills (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
