Job Title: Interpreter/Translator
Location: Ramallah

The European Union Co‐ordination Office for Palestinian Police Support – Ramallah (EUPOL COPPS) is seeking dynamic, highly skilled professionals for immediate recruitment for the position of Interpreter/Translator.
Summary:
The incumbent is responsible for the provision of day to day interpretation and translation services within the mission.
Reporting to: Programme Director
Accountable to: Deputy Head of Mission
Date of implementation: As soon as possible
Status: Temporary Position – 4 Months
Duties:
-To provide a high standard of translated text from Arabic into English and vice versa, with an excellent knowledge of the source language and mastery of the target language, ensuring that the meaning of the source text is retained;
-To convey orally in both English and Arabic to a given audience and during meetings, ensuring that the meaning of the source language is retained;
-Interpretation may be simultaneous or consecutive as requires excellent knowledge of both languages
-To use specialist dictionaries, thesauruses and references to find the closest equivalents for terminology and words used;
-To research legal, technical and police‐related phraseology to find the correct translation;
-To provide staff with a grammatically correct, well‐expressed final version of the translated text, usually as a word‐processed document;
-To use appropriate software for presentation and delivery
-To proofread and edit final translated versions;
-To provide a professional interpretation during, workshops, conferences
and major events;
-To assist international mission members in contacting the local counterparts and maintaining a good operational relationship with them.
-To join the staff in field visits to meet their counterparts and follow up on projects.
-To prioritize work to meet deadlines;
Qualifications and Experience:
-University Diploma in the areas of Interpretation/Translation or equivalent, at least 4 years of proven experience
-Must have the ability to communicate comprehensively in English and
Arabic
-Must be competent in the field of interpretation and translation
-Have excellent writing and communication skills, together with crosscultural linguistics appropriate to the position
-Be able to interpret while individuals are speaking
-Be acquainted with language terminology as used in a Police work environment, and the legal areas
-Have sufficient computer skills, including word processing software and internet
-An experience in the area of international law and Policing procedures is desirable
-Having a driving license would be recommendable
-A working knowledge and understanding of Hebrew would be of benefit
-Have a good cultural background, well educated, motivated and presentable
