Job Description
Position Title:iYouth Project Coordinator
Location:Gaza Office

Mercy Corps is a non-profit, non-governmental international humanitarian and development organization, registered in the United States and Scotland with offices in more than 40 countries around the world, including the West Bank and Gaza, where the organization has been active in implementing relief and development programs for over a decade. Mercy Corps ‘West Bank and Gaza’ has staff based in East Jerusalem and Gaza City offices that implement programs throughout the Palestinian territories.
The position will be seconded to the local partner organization responsible for the community action component of the program. The Program Coordinator will assist and advice Deputy Mission Director and Senior Program officer in day to day activities and long term strategic planning. This will include: interacting with partner organization/s; gathering and analysis of project data; conducting needs assessments; training development and planning; and program, procurement and financial documentation. The Program Coordinator will be responsible for identifying approximately 100 new members who are well respected and have the interest and time to participate in this program. The Program Coordinator will recruit these community members and make sure that they attend trainings and workshop and are regular participants. Following the training workshop, the Program Coordinator will be responsible for monitoring the trained youth members to make sure they are implementing the activities with their youth groups on a consistent and regular basis. The Program Coordinator will be responsible for continuous monitoring and follow up with the youth and local NGO to ensure that the activities are being implemented appropriately.
Main Responsibilities:
1-Recruit approximately 100 youth members who are well respected and have the interest and time to participate in trainings and provide community service.
2-Maximize recruitment of female youth.
3-Attend weekly meeting organized by youth groups.
4-Take active part in training sessions and provide weekly evaluation of conducted training.
5-Coordinate information sharing between youth groups and other organization crucial to success of youth group.
6-Assist weekly upload of video/photo essays on the global Mercy Corps GCC site.
7-Work closely with media groups and provide assistance in translating and editing of the scripts and videos produces by youth group.
8-Provide assistance to all relevant teams actively participating in this program. Support blogging, media, community service teams in completing all tasks set forward.
9-Assist in the preparation and implementation of community service projects, ensuring active participation of youth, including girls, according to a work plan.
10-Supervise iYouth major events and international activities, i.e. video contest, photo exhibition, essay competition and best local action.
11-Organize and participate in team building and community service activities as well as extracurricular activities, especially for all I-Youth members.
12-Provide assistance and moderate online discussions participated by multiple teams from multiple GCC countries.
13-Monitor computer lab and ensure that all activities conducted there are done in accordance with Mercy Corps rules and regulation and utilized accordingly and appropriately.
14-Visit trained youth members on regular basis (at least once a week) to monitor their progress and appropriate implementation of the activities.
15-Provide coaching to youth members in increasing the membership and reaching out to youth.
16-Cooperate and coordinate activities with the local NGO and relevant Mercy Corps teams.
17-Work closely with Mercy Corps admin, finance and procurement teams to ensure compliance with Mercy Corps rules and regulations.
18-Other tasks as appointed by the Manager.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: Supervise trained youth members to ensure they are implementing activities with their groups.
ACCOUNTABILITY
REPORTS DIRECTLY TO: Deputy Mission Director (Gaza)
WORKS DIRECTLY WITH: Senior Program Officer, Program Manager(s)
KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:
-BA/BS University Degree, in social science, business administration or other relevant field.
-Strong written and verbal English skills, ability to prepare written reports for supervisors.
-Arabic fluency essential.
-Good knowledge of Microsoft Windows and Office software, word processing and spreadsheet programs, as well as web based resources.
-Experience in cash handling procedures is preferred.
-Experience working with NGOs and GO in relevant capacities.
-Experience managing youth projects and preferably peer education and development projects.
-Knowledge of community leaders and resources that can be coordinated to facilitate the implementation of the project.
-Ability to organize and coordinate youth and adults in the community to attend trainings and carry out tasks.
-Effective verbal and written communication, organizational, prioritization skills and the ability to follow procedures are necessary.
-Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and work independently and cooperatively with team members in a cross cultural environment is required.
