Legal Advisor

The Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) re-established its presence in the Occupied
Palestinian Territories in January 2009 and is developing programme activities in the
sectors of shelter and the provision of information, counselling and legal assistance
(ICLA). The long term objective of the programme is to contribute to improved protection
and living conditions for refugees and internally displaced persons in the OPT.
Seeks: Legal Advisor - Jerusalem
The Legal Advisor will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day activities in Jerusalem and will assist in undertaking legal research and following up on legal cases.
RESPONSIBILITIES
1- Provide good legal advice and analysis on the Israeli legal systems and in particular, provide advice on rights to housing, land ;
2-Identify training needs of NGOs engaged in legal assistance.
3- Organizing legal and protection training ;
4-Undertake field visits as required;
5- Conduct legal research as required;
6- Carry out other relevant duties as requested by supervisor.
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED
1- Qualified Lawyer with minimum 2-3 years experience practising law in Israel ( preferably housing, land and property issues);
2- Experience with legal trainings;
3- Ability to work under pressure, independently and with limited supervision;
4- Strong organisational and logistical skills;
5- Excellent command of English, Arabic and Hebrew both written and orally
6- Experience of working with non-governmental organizations is an advantage; Commencement: As soon as possible
Contract period: 12 months, with possible extension
Salary/benefits: According to NRC’s general directions pay commessurate
with experience and benefits provided.
